
Tearing down statues has become a new frontier in the West’s culture wars. But one Russian town’s decision to cart off a “terrifying” new metal monument is unlikely to cause much controversy.
Authorities in Novovoronezh were filmed using a crane to pull up the figure and load it into a truck on Monday. Named ‘Alenka’, it had been unveiled only the day before, in honor of the 250th anniversary of the village first founded on the site.
