E3 2021 Banned Words ‘Test List’ Includes ‘Canada’ For Some Reason

A JavaScript file in the works has been discovered on the official Electronics Entertainment Expo (E3) website that lists “Canada” and “Canadian” as banned words for this year’s E3 virtual event.

With a physical E3 2021 event canceled amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), the program’s organizer, offers four-day public broadcasts, virtual showrooms, lounges, forums and more. through a portal and online application.

Given that change, it makes sense for ESA to seek to moderate public discourse for offensive content, but it is less clear why certain words such as “Canada”, “Canadian”, “toejam” or “women’s rap” were blocked.
