Ontario reports 66 more COVID-19 deaths, 2,059 hospitalizations
Ontario reported 66 more COVID-19 deaths and just over 2,000 hospitalizations on Wednesday- more than a week after the province loosened some public health measures.
Sixty-five of the deaths occurred in the past month and one was added to the province’s cumulative death total due to a data cleanup, according to the Ministry of Health.
449 people are in ICU with #COVID19. 80% of patients admitted to the ICU were admitted for COVID-19 and 20% were admitted for other reasons but have tested positive for COVID-19.
There are 3,162 new cases of COVID-19.

The dominos begin to fall: Most Canadian pandemic strictures should be gone by spring
Within hours of one another on Tuesday, Saskatchewan, P.E.I. and Alberta announced an imminent end to pandemic strictures, marking the first dominos to fall in what is poised to be a nationwide lifting of COVID-19 mandates.
Transmissibility of Omicron led to much higher death totals than past wave, research shows
People infected with the Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2 are less likely to die or experience severe outcomes compared with those infected with the Delta variant, emerging research shows.
However, the variant’s hypertransmissibility has led to daily death numbers that have eclipsed those of the previous wave, and a record number of hospitalizations, with Canada’s older population still at highest risk.
