As soon as Moonlight Pulido awoke from her operation, she knew something wasn’t right. Every inch of her body was covered in sweat, while a deep scar – red and raw – stretched across her lower abdomen.
An inmate at California’s Valley State Prison, Moonlight had agreed to undergo a procedure in which two growths in her ovaries would be removed, due to the risk they could turn cancerous. Instead, she was given a full abdominal hysterectomy.
