With friends like Trudeau, the carbon tax doesn’t need enemies

With every passing day it becomes clearer that the Liberals have no plausible strategy to defeat Pierre Poilievre and the Conservatives except to hope he defeats himself. Only a fool would discount that possibility, but in the meantime talk has understandably turned to Justin Trudeau’s “legacy.” Among the positive elements, to many eyes, is carbon pricing. Trudeau’s plan was the most ambitious, simple and principled this country had seen, it is argued, and it cost him considerable political capital.
