I’ve been stunned by the panic over next Monday’s solar eclipse. I’ve lived through many eclipses, solar and lunar, and cannot recall such official hysteria.
I’m not talking about excitement at witnessing a celestial phenomenon. That’s understandable. An eclipse is fascinating and just infrequent enough that wanting to watch one is perfectly natural.
