How Met has faced growing criticism over policing of protests

Britain’s streets have become another frontier in the war between Israel and Hamas and often the police are being caught in the crossfire.

A series of flashpoints between pro-Israel and pro-Palestinian supporters has seen police forces plunged into complex scenarios and at times drawn criticism for its handling of them.

Since October 7, on average there has been a pro-Palestinian protest in London every two weekends in what has been the biggest continuing drain on police resources since before the 2012 Olympic Games, costing tens of millions of pounds.
