Hamas proposal far from meeting Israel’s demands, says Netanyahu

Binyamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, has said the operation in Rafah will go ahead and that a ceasefire proposal agreed to by Hamas does not meet Israel’s demands.

Hamas had earlier announced that it accepted the terms of a ceasefire deal in Gaza. Ismail Haniyeh, Hamas’s political leader, called Qatar’s prime minister and Egypt’s intelligence chief to inform mediators that the group accepted the ceasefire terms, Hamas said in a statement.
