Upcoming Montreal byelection will be ‘a pretty important stay-or-go indicator’ for PM Trudeau, say political insiders and MPs

In the aftermath of the Liberals’ devastating byelection loss in Toronto-St. Paul’s, Ont., on June 24, all eyes are now focused on the upcoming high stakes three-way byelection contest in the coveted Liberal Montreal area riding of LaSalle–Émard–Verdun. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau—dealing with internal dissent, and trailing the Conservatives nationally by a double-digit margin for the past year—has to call a byelection for the Quebec seat by July 30, with the date to be no later than Sept. 16.

“If Trudeau is having a hard time deciding to leave, then this is particularly important,” Greg Lyle, president of Innovative Research, said in an interview with The Hill Times. “And then that says that he doesn’t make the decision until he sees this result.”

Another very safe Liberal seat.

Assuming a Liberal win this byelection will be painted as a nation wide endorsement of the Trudeau regime.

A defeat will be blamed on the Jews, Christians, Truckers, Diagolon, Trump, feral cats and or Mike Harris.
