Around this time of year, every film studio pays a vast amount of money for a series of adverts that go in the trade press, marked ‘For Your Consideration’. These are designed to promote the films that they believe have the highest chance of making a serious splash in the awards season, but also double up as a means of keeping talent happy.
It is unlikely, for instance, that Joaquin Phoenix stands any serious chance of repeating his Oscar win for Joker with its failed sequel, but its studio Warner Bros will still campaign on his behalf, just as it will be going into bat for the commercially unsuccessful Mad Max sequel Furiosa and its sole recent big hit, the Beetlejuice follow-up Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.
Nate Silver Reveals What His Gut Says About the Election
Famed left-leaning pollster Nate Silver is making a prediction based on his “gut” on what’s going to happen in the election coming in less than two weeks.
“In an election where the seven battleground states are all polling within a percentage point or two, 50-50 is the only responsible forecast,” he wrote. “Since the debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, that is more or less exactly where my model has had it.”
