Just a few days from now, while two major nuclear powers wage war in Europe and the Middle East and a third threatens war in Asia, the world’s strongest democracy may elect to become a fascist state. Many people recognize that this is a dangerous time for the world; many others understand that Donald Trump is a dangerous man for the United States. And yet: Even among those who know that the world at present and Trump as president are each singularly dangerous — that there has been no time on earth so precarious since WWII, and no president so pathological as Trump, ever — there are still some who claim that Trump will not make the world a more dangerous place.
