Eventually, every woman must learn that being nice to an egomaniacal bulls—t artist won’t long protect her from him. It’s too bad Chrystia Freeland had to learn this lesson twice.
Last week, Trump learned that he wouldn’t be able to insult Freeland at the negotiating table anymore, so he insulted her online. Amateur. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau insulted her in her own ministry. No: he got leakers to insult her. He betrayed her, then demanded she betray herself, passing a bad idea of a budget off as her own so as not to embarrass the man he wanted to take her place. Trump’s treatment of women — of the many women who have accused him of sexual assault, of his wives, of Freeland — is hideous, but at least it’s honest in its hideousness. Trudeau’s sexism can feel worse because he pretends to be better.
The author sounds like a fun date. This is the latest effort to whitewash Homolka, I mean Freeland as a saint.
