Taxpayers fund ethnic pole-dance troop that wants to ‘decolonise’ industry

A pole-dancing troop that aims to boost the number of ethnic minority, trans and non-binary “polers” and “decolonise” the industry has benefited from close to £100,000 in taxpayer funding.

Blackstage Pole campaigns for more diversity and runs events for performers who are “black people and people of colour of all bodies and abilities, especially those who are queer, trans, non-binary and/or sex workers”.

It claims the pole-dancing industry is too “white and non-sex worker allied” and excludes trans, plus-size and LGBTQ+ dancers.
