There are interim remedies to increase the Marine Corps’ capabilities in the Indo-Pacific region, but it will take a decade to fully repair.
Most people are familiar with Chinese finger cuffs. They make great party favors for kids. If you place your index fingers in them, it is very difficult to get out unless you know the trick. For the last six years, the United States Marine Corps has placed itself in Chinese finger cuffs of its own design, and it cannot figure out the trick to extracting itself.
In a recent article in the dissident unofficial Marine Corps publication “Compass Points,” retired General Tony Zinni points out the problem. Zinni is one of the most experienced and accomplished Marines of his generation, having directed complex combat and humanitarian missions as a joint commander. He argues that the current Marine Corps fixation with China is myopic and potentially fatal to the future of the Corps. He is absolutely correct.

A summer camp sponsored by an Islamic charity accused of backing Iran could expose children to extremist views, it has been claimed.
The camp, run by the Ahlulbayt Islamic Mission (AIM) charity, is aimed at children aged nine to 14, with activities including climbing and abseiling along with “lectures and discussions”.
AIM describes Camp Wilayah, which is set to take place in Kings Langley, Hertfordshire, next month, as an “amazing place to enjoy the outdoors, make new friends, learn and build on Islamic values”.

It appears we have elected a federal government that is not only eager to support a new oil pipeline in British Columbia, but may end up throwing our electric vehicle ambitions into reverse—if not into the ditch.
This could be hasty and unduly negative, but Prime Minister Mark Carney has so far shown far less interest in the clean technologies of the future than in roads, railways, ports and pipelines for his “major infrastructure” projects.
The most optimistic speculation is that his government will extend deadlines for EV adoption by a few years in response to pressure from the Canadian auto sector. Automakers argue, reasonably, that the Justin Trudeau-era decree—that 20 per cent of new cars sold in Canada must be zero-emissions by 2026—is undoable for a variety of reasons, with one of them being the Trump administration’s sharp turn away from electrification and back to gas-powered behemoths.
Another EV evangelist shorted out of reality.

Rumors say mighty Xi Jinping will lose his Communist Party and Chinese state posts in the next few months. There is, however, also a large group of China watchers and academics who say that little or nothing is out of place and Xi is fine.
Whatever the truth, the U.S. and other countries need to prepare for the regime to lash out without warning. Xi may now have reason to take the world by surprise.

Alberta’s premier says “pornography is a problem for young adults” in remarks defending her government’s move to remove sexually explicit content from school library shelves this fall.
Danielle Smith was responding to criticism received via text on her province-wide phone-in radio program on Saturday that a lack of education funding and overcrowded classrooms were more important issues than library content.

Nearly 6,000 acres of old Arizona farmland once intended for a residential subdivision is on track to potentially become home to the first big new U.S. copper mine in more than a decade.
If all goes as planned, Ivanhoe Electric will begin construction of its Santa Cruz mine early next year and start selling copper cathodes to manufacturers before the end of 2028. That is a blink of an eye in mining, where the time between discoveries and production is often measured in decades.

1 of 4 men accused in alleged Quebec extremist plot granted bail, 3 remain detained
QUÉBEC — One of four men accused in an alleged anti-government plot to forcibly take possession of land in the Quebec City region has been granted bail.
Matthew Forbes, 33, was ordered in Quebec court to comply with a lengthy list of conditions including wearing a GPS tracking bracelet.
The other three accused — Simon Angers-Audet, 24, Raphaël Lagacé, 25, and Marc-Aurèle Chabot, 24 — will remain detained until their bail hearings scheduled for July 24-25 in Quebec City.

After riots at a California marijuana farm where ICE conducted an operation arresting 200 illegal immigrants, Los Angeles correspondent Carter Evans repeated on Friday’s CBS Evening News what someone he interviewed about the matter told him, mainly that “she feels like pretty much everyone with brown skin is a target.”

Canadian university administrators should remember that they too can be held accountable for genocide complicity.
“Universities worldwide, under the guise of research neutrality, continue to profit from an [Israeli] economy now operating in genocidal mode. Indeed, they are structurally dependent on settler-colonial collaborations and funding.”
This is what United Nations Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese wrote in her latest report “From economy of occupation to economy of genocide”, which documents the financial tentacles of Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza and beyond. Its release prompted the United States’ governing regime to issue sanctions against Albanese in a move the Italian legal scholar rightly described as “obscene” and “mafia intimidation tactics”.

I’m not sure who thought it was a good idea for Joe Biden to do an interview with the New York Times about the autopen scandal, but it happened, and boy, was it a mistake. While defending his controversial use of an autopen machine for mass clemency decisions, Biden boldly claimed he “made every decision” on his own.

New signs greet Canadians still crossing the border into northeastern Maine with a cheery bilingual message of “Bienvenue à nos amis canadiens!” Officials have taken care to ensure the Maple Leaf is still fluttering, and that frayed flags are replaced. The airport in Presque Isle has urged its employees to be delicate in conversation with Canadian travellers who may not want to hear American views on trade and tariffs.
No joking about the 51st state, local tourism authorities have urged. No chatting even amongst staff about how nice it would be to get to Canadian Tire without a passport, lest a Canadian customer overhear.
‘Keep your money in Canada’: Duty-free shop owner urges travellers to buy local
A duty-free shop at a New Brunswick border crossing is shutting down after more than three decades in business, with
its owner warning that more closures could follow as Canada’s trade tensions with the United States continue to strain cross-border traffic.
John Slipp, owner of the Woodstock Duty Free Shop in Belleville, N.B., says he plans to close his store within the next six weeks, citing plummeting sales, a drop in Canadian travellers, and the lack of federal support.

President Donald Trump is pushing up wages for millions of Americans by ending the federal welcome for millions of illegal migrants, says a pro-migration economist at a Washington, DC, think-tank.
“We’re going to see stronger wage growth in some occupations, stronger wage growth in the agricultural sector, stronger wage growth for home health workers,” said Wendy Edelberg, a “senior fellow” at the elite-funded Brookings Institution in Washington, DC.
Meanwhile in Canada the Liberal Government and their Corporate Welfare Class pals continue to screw citizens over.
Labour Department in briefing note to Minister @PattyHajdu acknowledged young jobseekers face “economic shocks” including rising unemployment.

Investments in companies like Chevron, Marathon, Occidental and Valero litter Mark Carney’s investment portfolio. That means our prime minister, the man who spent years lecturing the world about green energy and decarbonization, has been making money from oil exploration, drilling, refining and pipelines.

It’s 4am on election night and things are not looking good for Kamala Harris.
Donald Trump has already won the key swing states of Georgia and Wisconsin and is well on his way to seizing Pennsylvania, at which point the election will be called in his favour.
But all might not be as it seems. According to a growing number of spiritually-inclined Democrat supporters, 4am on Nov 6 2024 is the moment the universe “split”, leaving us on an alternate timeline where Mr Trump is president.
The left wing version of Q Anon?
Hahaha…what in the world♀️. There is NOT a striking resemblance between the two!
This is absolutely insane. The 4am Club thinks they are living on a different timeline in which Kamala Harris won the 2024 elections.
