Anti-migrant riots erupt in Northern Ireland after alleged sexual assault

Fifteen police officers were injured and four houses set alight in anti-migrant riots after two teenagers, thought to be Romanian, were charged with the sexual assault of a girl in Northern Ireland.

Two 14-year-old boys appeared at a local court by video link on Monday, charged with attempted rape. The charges were read to them by a Romanian interpreter.

Violence erupted in Ballymena, County Antrim, on Monday night after a peaceful vigil by hundreds of people had been held in the town centre.

F-35 program facing skyrocketing costs, pilot shortage and infrastructure deficit: AG report

Canada’s plan to buy 88 U.S.-built F-35 fighter jets is facing significant challenges, including skyrocketing costs, a shortage of trained pilots and a lack of critical infrastructure, according to a new report from Auditor General Karen Hogan.

The audit for the F-35 program is part of Hogan’s spring audits, released Tuesday, which also found contracts awarded to GCStrategies for the ArriveCan app and other services regularly did not follow proper processes or deliver value for money.

This sounds like the prep for exiting the purchase agreement.

World fertility rates in ‘unprecedented decline’, UN says

In all countries, 39% of people said financial limitations prevented them from having a child.

Namrata Nangia and her husband have been toying with the idea of having another child since their five-year-old daughter was born.

But it always comes back to one question: ‘Can we afford it?’

She lives in Mumbai and works in pharmaceuticals, her husband works at a tyre company. But the costs of having one child are already overwhelming – school fees, the school bus, swimming lessons, even going to the GP is expensive.

It was different when Namrata was growing up. “We just used to go to school, nothing extracurricular, but now you have to send your kid to swimming, you have to send them to drawing, you have to see what else they can do.”

Carney attends first stoning in Canada.

Britain and other allies imposed sanctions on two far-right Israeli ministers, Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich, on Tuesday over “their repeated incitements of violence against Palestinian communities,” the U.K.’s foreign ministry said.

Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Norway joined Britain in freezing the assets and imposing travel bans on Israel’s National Security Minister Ben-Gvir — a West Bank settler — and Finance Minister Smotrich.

Fed Up with Migrant Chaos, Dutch Citizens Set Up DIY Border Checks

European voters are increasingly frustrated at establishment parties ignoring their demands for tougher migration controls. In the Netherlands over the weekend, a group of citizens gathered near the border with Germany near Ter Apel to stop cars and conduct asylum seeker checks themselves.

They decided to take action after ‘centre-right’ coalition parties blocked asylum reforms, prompting Geert Wilders to take his right-wing populist Freedom Party (PVV/PfE) out of the government.

Fewer Americans visiting Canada. ‘Americans welcome here’ ad campaigns ask that Yankee Running Dogs ignore our knee-jerk anti-Americanism

Fewer Americans are visiting Canada. Ad campaigns assure them they’re welcome here

Late last year, Dan Davis of Cleveland, Ohio, began planning a motorcycle trip with friends this summer that includes several days in Ontario.

But those plans became a little uncertain after U.S. President Donald Trump took office in January and imposed tariffs on Canada, sparking a trade war. That, coupled with Trump’s frequent threats to make Canada the 51st state, has sparked anger among many Canadians.

Davis noted that, in February, Canadians booed the U.S. national anthem at several NHL hockey games, and in March, the Canadian government ran a billboard campaign in a dozen U.S. states, including Ohio, declaring that Trump’s “tariffs are a tax.”

Long before the current tariff war many Canadians held America in open contempt, it is the cornerstone of their ‘nationalism’ .

There is no hypocrisy like a smug Canadian’s hypocrisy. Hey Americans give us your money while we spit on you!

Tories support Liberal defence spending hike, but still want a budget

OTTAWA — While the Tories support the PM’s plans to greatly bolster Canada’s defence spending, they still want figures in black and white.

Speaking to reporters ahead of Question Period on Monday, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre renewed his calls for the Mark Carney Liberals to release a budget sooner rather than later.

He’s fading into the background. No wonder Carney wants a long summer break.

Uber to bring self-driving cars on to Britain’s streets next year

Uber is preparing to test fully self-driving taxis on London’s roads for the first time.

The US ride-hailing company confirmed on Tuesday it had signed a deal with Wayve, an autonomous driving and artificial intelligence start-up founded in Cambridge, to pilot its technology on UK roads from next spring.

The trials come after Heidi Alexander, the Transport Secretary, brought forward rules that will allow advanced driverless taxi and bus services to operate on British streets from 2026.

Trump was right to send the National Guard to LA

President Trump called out the California National Guard, the first time since 1965 that any president has done so without a request from a state’s governor. It’s hard to see what other choice he had.

As ICE agents served a warrant to search a local business for suspected illegal immigrants, a crowd gathered. It quickly escalated from protest to riot, with cars burning, bricks thrown, and all of the typical hallmarks of an anarchic response to federal law enforcement. The rioting continued into the next day and ICE agents were assaulted and outnumbered.

At this point, there are few options. They could give up, go home, and forget about doing their job and enforcing federal law. That was the situation that prevailed for four years under Joe Biden, when millions were permitted to enter the country illegally and without consequence. America’s frustration with that state of affairs is a large part of what led to Trump’s reelection. Inaction on illegal immigration by this administration would mean betraying the voters on an issue Trump cares about.

Lost RCMP memory key with informant details was offered for sale by criminals: report

OTTAWA – The federal privacy watchdog says the RCMP lost a memory key containing personal information about victims, witnesses and informants, and later learned it was being offered for sale by criminals.

A detailed report from the office of privacy commissioner Philippe Dufresne reveals the RCMP told the watchdog about the breach in March 2022, prompting a lengthy investigation.

The probe found that the unencrypted USB storage device contained the personal information of 1,741 people, including witnesses, complainants, subjects of interest, informants, police officers and civilian employees.

Greta Thunberg and ‘freedom flotilla’ activists ‘REFUSED to watch footage of October 7 atrocities’ before being deported

Greta Thunberg is now on a plane out of Israel along with three other ‘freedom flotilla’ activists deported after they reportedly refused to watch footage of Hamas atrocities carried out on October 7, 2023 in Israel.

The crew of the Madleen ship, who had planned to sail to Gaza to deliver aid, were scooped up by Israeli Navy boats well before they reached shore yesterday and towed to the port of Ashdod.

Eight of the 12 activists refused to sign deportation papers and are being detained pending a court hearing. Thunberg and three others signed the documents and are now on a flight out of Israel.
