GOLDSTEIN: Can Carney Liberals fix damage caused by Trudeau Liberals?

Prime Minister Mark Carney’s mandate letter to his cabinet is largely an attempt to address problems created, ignored or exacerbated by his predecessor, Justin Trudeau.

In that context, it’s hard to see how effective Carney’s cabinet will be in achieving his goals, given its large contingent of Trudeau-era ministers who, under Trudeau’s leadership, screwed up many of the files Carney now says he wants to fix.

Young US men are joining Russian churches promising ‘absurd levels of manliness’

“A lot of people ask me: ‘Father Moses, how can I increase my manliness to absurd levels?'”

In a YouTube video, a priest is championing a form of virile, unapologetic masculinity.

Skinny jeans, crossing your legs, using an iron, shaping your eyebrows, and even eating soup are among the things he derides as too feminine.

There are other videos of Father Moses McPherson – a powerfully-built father of five – weightlifting to the sound of heavy metal.

‘It’s all about symbolism’: The tight-lipped Royal Family is sending a message with its trip to Canada

OTTAWA — As an institution that has for centuries employed symbolism with surgical precision, the timing of the King’s visit to Canada may be more revealing than the itinerary itself.

It’s considered a core principle of the British constitutional monarchy that the ceremonial head of state of the United Kingdom, Canada and other Commonwealth countries not comment on or become directly involved in politics. It’s also a key component in trying to maintain the public’s trust.

Anthropic’s Latest AI Model Threatened Engineers With Blackmail to Avoid Shutdown

Anthropic’s latest artificial intelligence model, Claude Opus 4, tried to blackmail engineers in internal tests by threatening to expose personal details if it were shut down, according to a newly released safety report that evaluated the model’s behavior under extreme simulated conditions.

In a fictional scenario crafted by Anthropic researchers, the AI was given access to emails implying that it was soon to be decommissioned and replaced by a newer version. One of the emails revealed that the engineer overseeing the replacement was having an extramarital affair. The AI then threatened to expose the engineer’s affair if the shutdown proceeded—a coercive behavior that the safety researchers explicitly defined as “blackmail.”

How the American gun that killed a Canadian cop made it across the border and into the hands of a killer

PHOENIX, Ariz.—Cynthia Solano never met Greg Pierzchala, the rookie cop killed on the side of a rural Ontario crossroads.

She wasn’t there more than two years ago when a young man used the gun concealed in his hoodie to fire six bullets into the officer, whose anguished cries were recorded by his body-worn camera as he fell to the ground.

But Solano has a link to the horrific crime, for which two people were convicted of first-degree murder last month.

World most violent it has been in decades

Violence is more widespread today than it has been in decades, with armed conflict touching every major region, according to data analysed by The Telegraph.

Last year, varying levels of conflict were reported across at least 50 different countries, from the civil war in Myanmar to extreme violence between drug cartels in Mexico, according to the Armed Conflict Location & Event Data (ACLED).

Experts predict that the trend will probably continue throughout 2025 and beyond.

Toronto man discovers $1,500 Hwy. 407 bill after criminals duplicated his licence plate

Camilo Sanchez was at home last Tuesday night when two Toronto police detectives knocked at his door, flashed their badges at him and informed him the licence plates to his white 2018 Dodge Durango had been duplicated.

The 33-year-old maintenance company owner said he couldn’t believe what he was hearing.

“Then they told me that it’s been used in violent crimes and theft around the city,” Sanchez recounted, adding he then answered a few questions to confirm he wasn’t the suspect wanted in these alleged crimes and reviewed photos of the suspect vehicle that looked eerily similar to his own. A spokesperson for Toronto Police Service confirmed Sanchez’s plates had in fact been duplicated but would not provide further comment due to the active investigation.

Tired of political attacks, Musk turns back to Mars and autonomous cars

About a year ago, Elon Musk quietly summoned a handful of Republican strategists and confidants to his sparsely decorated apartment overlooking downtown Austin. The Tesla CEO told the group that electing Donald Trump was essential to the country’s future, and he was willing to do anything — and pay any amount — to create a “red wave” around the country.

He did a lot, launching the U.S. DOGE Service to orchestrate sweeping layoffs and budget cuts. He spent a lot, plowing at least $288 million into the 2024 election. And this week, following a period of intense backlash against his political activity and his electric-vehicle company, he seemed to draw a line under all that work: “I think I’ve done enough.”

So what will be the next focus for the world’s richest person?

CHARLEBOIS: Time to spill the tea on Canada’s misguided tariffs

When Prime Minister Mark Carney quietly lifted most food-related countervailing tariffs on May 7, few Canadians noticed.

There was no press release, no public statement – just a discreet policy shift mid-campaign. Yet several symbolic tariffs remain, notably on orange juice, coffee, alcohol, and tea.

The rationale? Canadians can supposedly “find substitutes.”

WALLACE & NEMETH: Carney’s carbon tariff dream will just be more inflation

Mark Carney has made it clear that as part of continued net zero policies, his government will consider imposing a Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM.) That would be a carbon tariff applied to imports, to support Canadian products burdened by domestic carbon pricing.

Proposed in 2021 and included in the 2024 Fall Economic Statement, the Canadian CBAM is a misguided attempt to shield domestic industries. In response to America’s new tariffs, a CBAM has been proposed to pivot trade to the EU and adopt a European-style CBAM.

Record number of Americans are seeking residency in UK, according to Home Office

During the 12 months leading up to March, more than 6,000 US citizens have applied to either become British subjects or to live and work in the country indefinitely – the highest number since comparable records began in 2004, according to data released on Thursday by the UK’s Home Office.

Over the period, 6,618 Americans applied for British citizenship – with more than 1,900 of the applications received between January and March, most of which has been during the beginning of Donald Trump’s second US presidency.

The surge in applications at the start of 2025 made that the highest number for any quarter on record.

The Prince, His Money Manager and the Corruption Scandal Rocking Monaco

He safeguarded the family’s fortune—and their secrets. Now, it’s all unraveling.

TUCKED ONE STREET behind Monte Carlo’s historic harbor, which is famously dotted with champagne bars and anchored by the storied casino that was the backdrop to multiple James Bond films, the

Monaco police station may be the most unglamorous building in one of the world’s most glamorous settings.
Gray and boxy, it looks more like student housing on a university campus than a bulwark of security for the global elite who flock here as much for its aura of protective secrecy as its shimmering scenery.

But over two days this February, in the police captain’s office with a window facing up the rocky slope toward the palace, a dapper 68-year-old suspect in a corruption scandal rattled one of Europe’s most storied royal families and shook the foundations of a tiny country built on polished appearances, ironclad confidentiality and tightly choreographed power.

Conrad Black: Canada covers itself in shame over Israel

On May 19, a joint statement was issued by the governments of the United Kingdom, France, and Canada whose principal points were: ”We call on the Israeli government to stop its military operations in Gaza and immediately allow humanitarian aid to enter Gaza. This must include engaging with the UN to ensure a return to delivery of aid in line with humanitarian principles.” “Israel suffered a heinous attack on October 7. We have always supported Israel’s right to defend Israelis against terrorism. But this escalation is wholly disproportionate.” “If Israel does not cease the renewed military offensive and lift its restrictions on humanitarian aid, we will take further concrete actions in response.” “It is a ceasefire, the release of all remaining hostages and a long-term political solution that offer the best hope of ending the agony of the hostages and their families, alleviating the suffering of civilians in Gaza, ending Hamas’s control of Gaza and achieving a pathway to a two-state solution.”

The Bizarre Phenomenon of Celebrity Transgender Children Confronts Changing Attitudes

Jamie Lee Curtis and weirdo son

For a several-year span, when a celebrity announced that her child had transitioned to the opposite sex, she was showered with praise and attention. In fact, nothing compared to a transgender child in demonstrating how progressive, open-minded, and compassionate an actress was. She was oh-so-supportive and affirming when her son, at three, announced that he was really a girl. Divorce or a rotating cast of long-term “partners” would be old news in Hollywood. But a transgender child, now that was interesting. A transgender child was the hottest accessory one could have.

I will not have what they’re having. Thank you.

How Soros Bought the ‘Voice’ of the Jewish Community

And turned it into an advocacy group for Hamas supporters.

After a belated crackdown on campus antisemitism, some were surprised to see the Jewish Council for Public Affairs leading a campaign in support of college Hamas enthusiasts.

Observers of Jewish organizational life remembered the JCPA as a representative of local Jewish ‘federations’, the organization had always been liberal, but it had never taken so blatant a stance in defense of antisemites or so overt a stance.against the American Jewish community.
