JAY GOLDBERG: Carney’s voodoo budgeting puts taxpayers last

Deficits, deficits and more deficits.

That’s Liberal Leader Mark Carney’s plan when it comes to budgeting, as he hopes to lead the nation for the next four years.

Many Canadians are alarmed at the sheer scale at which the Liberals have piled up debt over the past decade. Since the Trudeau Liberals came to power in 2015, the federal debt has more than doubled.

Why won’t Hitler conspiracies die?

Eighty years ago, as Red Army shells rained down over Adolf Hitler’s Reich Chancellery garden, a group of his remaining friends and colleagues huddled under the block-shaped exit of his last grim command centre, the Führerbunker. Flames engulfed the bodies of the newlywed Mr and Mrs Hitler, casting a flickering light over the onlookers, who raised their arms in a final straight-armed salute.

The enduring cultural and political relevance of Hitler’s death hardly needs restating. It gave us online parodies of the rant scene in the film Downfall and, of course, a wild range of conspiracy theories.

The Pope who did not love the West (or the Jews)

The left loved Pope Francis when he denigrated capitalism, globalization, inequalities between rich and poor as well as Muslim migrants, and when he put theoretical Catholic violence and very real Islamic violence on the same level. The left loved the Pope when Francis willingly submitted to the dictates of political correctness and seemed to have adopted Chesterton’s famous “crazy Christian virtues”.

To stop Pierre Poilievre, I put Canada before the NDP, Jagmeet Singh tells the Star

Facing a possible collapse of the NDP, Jagmeet Singh insists he has no regrets.

The NDP leader stood by his decision not to plunge the country into an early election last fall while support for Justin Trudeau’s Liberals plummeted, telling the Star’s editorial board he “couldn’t stomach” the idea of causing Pierre Poilievre’s seizure of power, and that he made the choice to put Canada’s interests ahead of those of the New Democratic Party.

I hope he loses his seat.

China Helping the Houthis Attack U.S. Navy Vessels

“We can confirm the reporting that Chang Guang Satellite Technology Co., Ltd. (CGSTL) is directly supporting Iran-backed Houthi terrorist attacks on U.S. interests,” State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce said on April 17th at her regular press briefing

Specifically, CGSTL has been providing targeting data and probably raw satellite imagery to the Houthis for their attacks on U.S. Navy vessels in the Red Sea.

China did not issue a clear official denial of the State Department charge.

Blackboard Jungle 2025: What’s Driving the Epidemic of School Violence in Canada?

Things have changed at schools I guess. Looks like they’re passing a shiv.

“No place for a reasoned discussion: When newly-minted high school teacher “Cassie” tried to lead her English and Art class in a discussion about race and oppression, a black student in her classroom called her a “gook” and then attacked her with a large pair of art scissors, leaving her with several “big, dark” bruises and a severe case of PTSD.”

It’s a mystery to me.

Liberals Loathe Arrival of ‘MAGA Media’ Inside the White House

The New York Times recently published a hissy fit about the White House allowing reporters into the Briefing Room who didn’t vote for Kamala Harris. Here was the amazing protest sentence: “Longtime White House reporters say the result has been an erosion of their independence.”

The presence of a reporter who didn’t vote Democrat doesn’t “erode” the anti-Trump animus (“independence”) of liberal activist journalists. It might balance it, suggesting journalism and liberalism are not exactly the same thing.

KLEIN: Liberals eye home equity tax while Canadians shout ‘fake news’ and hurl emojis

The response to my recent column on the Liberal government’s quiet interest in taxing your home equity was predictable — but revealing.

Instead of engaging with the facts, many online commentators resorted to the usual routine: Hashtags, name-calling, shouting “fake news” into the void, and hurling emojis like they’re making a serious argument.

Let that sink in.

Mexico’s Sending More Sewage Across the Border, and It’s Becoming a Big U.S. National Security Issue

As I write nearby, the decades-long problem of Mexico sending its raw sewage gushing into the Tijuana River and polluting the beaches of the U.S. has grown worse in the past few years with the huge population growth in Tijuana, Mexico. But now it’s affecting America’s national security interests, and s*** just got real.

‘Missed penis’ on Bayeux Tapestry raises questions between scholars

A row has broken out between scholars after an expert claimed to have discovered an extra penis on the Bayeux Tapestry.

Seven years ago, Prof George Garnett, an Oxford academic, claimed to have identified 93 depictions of male genitalia in the tapestry; five were on men, while 88 belonged to horses.

However, Dr Christopher Monk, a mediaeval scholar and expert on Anglo-Saxon nudity, has now claimed that he has found a another penis, pushing the figure up to 94.

In his closing pitch, Poilievre paints a dark picture of Canada if Liberals are re-elected

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre painted a gloomy picture of Canada in his closing pitch to voters on Thursday, saying life will get worse if they return a Liberal government in this election.

After sounding a more optimistic and hopeful tone earlier this week around the release of his party’s platform, Poilievre reverted to form at a news conference in Halifax. He said the country will face nothing but “despair” if Liberal Leader Mark Carney is the next prime minister — signalling he will go negative with his messaging in the final days to try and keep his opponent out of power.

Will Elon Musk really leave Doge and what happens when he does?

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has said he will step back from his role with the Trump administration’s cost-cutting team known as Doge.

Those at the White House, including the president, have said it has long been the plan that Musk would soon step away, but the news came as the billionaire’s car business saw earnings plunge.

Musk’s announcement left many unanswered questions, including when he will actually leave the administration and what will happen to Doge, which stands for Department of Government Efficiency.

Carson Jerema: Poilievre could only ever satisfy the media by becoming a Liberal … like Doug Ford

The biggest, though by no means the smartest or the most coherent, complaint against Conservatives is that they aren’t Liberals. This complaint comes, bizarrely, as often from other conservatives, as it does from the left. Or perhaps it isn’t so bizarre, as Conservatives who want their side to become more like the other side will always be given time by Canada’s monochromatic media, which seems to agree that the only good Conservative is a Liberal.

Senior Russian Officer Killed in Car Explosion Near Moscow

A senior Russian military commander was killed on Friday in a car explosion in a suburb of Moscow, investigators said.

The Investigative Committee of Russia, the country’s equivalent to the F.B.I., issued a statement identifying the officer as Lt. Gen. Yaroslav Moskalik, a senior figure in the Russian General Staff who was directly involved in planning operations. The investigators said that they had opened a criminal inquiry into the explosion, which took place in the town of Balashikha, east of Moscow.
