Opec+ escalates war with US over shale

Crude oil prices have started to decline again today, after initially rising thanks to news that most of America’s trading partners will receive a 90-day tariff suspension. Donald Trump’s escalated tariff strategy against Beijing, which increased the overall rate on Chinese imports to 125% effective immediately, has further contributed to the negative market outlook. There are now strong indicators that long-term crude oil prices will continue to trend downwards.

Israel’s Netanyahu Asks Canada’s Carney to ‘Backtrack’ on Comment About Gaza

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reacted to comments made by Canadian Prime Minister and Liberal Leader Mark Carney during a political rally this week, when he commented on the situation in the Gaza Strip.

“Canada has always sided with civilization. So should Mr. Carney,” Netanyahu wrote in an April 10 post on the social media platform X. The Israeli prime minister’s comments appeared on a repost of an excerpt of the video taken during Carney’s rally in Calgary on April 8.

Russian spies ‘paid teenager to burn down Ikea’

Russia allegedly paid a Ukrainian teenager to firebomb an Ikea store as part of its “hybrid war” on the West, US media reported on Thursday.

Russian spies are said to have offered the 17-year-old $11,000 (£8,000) in cash and a BMW to carry out the attack on an Ikea store in the Lithuanian capital of Vilnius, the New York Times reported.

The agents communicated with him via the encrypted Chinese messenger app Zengi, under the James Bond-inspired alias of Q, Lithuanian prosecutors allege.

Carney ‘did a terrible job’ as Bank of England governor, says former British PM

Lizz Truss, the shortest-serving prime minister in British history, said Mark Carney did “a terrible job” as the Bank of England’s governor and blamed him for “a lot of the problems” that led to her quick departure from 10 Downing Street in 2022, even though he’d resigned two years earlier.

Macron says France will recognise a Palestinian state

France plans to recognise a Palestinian state by June, when it will co-chair an international conference on a two-state solution with Saudi Arabia, President Macron has said.

In return, he suggested that Saudi Arabia and other countries in the Middle East that have not already recognised Israel could do so.

“We must move towards recognition and we will do this in the coming months,” Macron told France 5 television.

So Called Canadian citizen extradited to India for alleged role in deadly 2008 Mumbai attacks

A Pakistan-born Canadian citizen wanted for his alleged role in the deadly 2008 Mumbai siege has landed in New Delhi after his extradition from the United States.

Tahawwur Hussain Rana, 64, arrived at a military airbase outside the Indian capital under heavily armed guard late on Thursday, and will be held in detention to face trial.

India accuses Rana of being a member of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) group, designated by the United Nations as a terrorist organisation, and of helping to plot the attacks.

Endangered species of our time – the White British

TWO of the best-known dystopian novels are probably George Orwell’s 1984 and Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World. But there is another which may have slipped below many people’s radar. This is the 1972 Fugue for a Darkening Island by Christopher Priest.

Amazon tells us: ‘As Europe looks for ways to deal with the humanitarian crisis of Syria’s misplaced population and the influx of refugees crossing the Mediterranean, Christopher Priest’s second novel has a new, timely, edge. Survivors of a terrible African war flee their blighted continent, and look for refuge in the countries of the West. But Britain is falling into civil war and anarchy.’

Why Is Trump’s DOJ Hiding An FBI Informant’s Deposition On The Oklahoma Bombing?

After the April 19, 1995, Oklahoma City bombing, the FBI launched a massive manhunt for a mystery accomplice to Timothy McVeigh known as “John Doe 2”—only to later claim that he never existed, and that McVeigh acted largely alone.

Nearly 30 years later, an attorney in Utah named Jesse Trentadue is still working to unearth the truth through his ongoing Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit for surveillance footage of the blast. According to FBI and Secret Service records, the footage shows McVeigh with another unidentified subject.

‘They’ve cratered’: For NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh this election is do or die

Under Jagmeet Singh , Canada’s New Democratic Party has successes its leftist supporters can be proud of.

A national dental care program, pharmacare and anti-replacement-worker legislation are all in line with the party’s social democratic vision of governance.

But they came about in a curious way, as the NDP’s policy reward in a tit-for-tat arrangement that kept the governing Liberal party in power well past the end of its popular support.

He was only ever interested in his pension.

Dear Woke Left: Hands Off Jeanne d’Arc!

Over the centuries, the disputes between France and England have steadily escalated and experienced a thousand and one twists and turns. From Agincourt to Mers-el-Kébir, via Trafalgar, the relationship between the Gauls and their best enemies across the Channel has been characterised by rumbling storms—interrupted, however, by lovely clear spells, such as the marriage of Charles I and Henrietta of France or the signing of the Entente Cordiale. This is the charm of our European history, which overzealous Brussels officials would like to erase and replace with a peaceful era of perpetual bureaucracy.

Are White Boys Checking Out of University?

Have you heard of the phrase ‘basic white girl’? No, nor me, until I ran a series of workshops to help teenagers prepare for, amongst other things, university interviews. A number of courses would be mentioned and immediately dismissed by some as ‘basic white girl’ courses. These included: psychology (80% female), English literature (70%) and sociology (77%). (‘Basic white girls,’ I learned, also love side-stripe baggy trousers, Taylor Swift and being pretty.) These subjects represent the extreme trend in universities becoming female dominated: 57% of UK undergraduates are now female. The balance of academic teaching staff at universities in 2022-23 is 51% male and 49% female, but the wider university staff is 55% female. Is it possible that what happened in primary schools, where only 15% of teachers are male and secondary schools (35%), will happen in higher education? Are boys already self-excluding from this female-dominated world?

A wedge has emerged on religious freedom. Pierre Poilievre is on the right side of it

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre is making a strategic play for the all-important 905 region of Ontario by talking about … Quebec.

It’s subtle, and so far, it hasn’t resonated much beyond French-language media and ethnic media in Ontario. But a wedge is starting to emerge between Mr. Poilievre and Liberal Leader Mark Carney on laïcité: on Quebec’s Bill 21, and where the two parties stand on freedom of religious expression. And that might matter, if only as a matter of principle in some of the most diverse ridings in the country, where the Conservatives have to do well if they want a shot at forming government.

There is a strain of westerner who will defend to the death a Mohammedan’s right to slit your throat.
