With one video, Pierre Poilievre has taken control of the housing debate

Pierre Poilievre’s 15-minute advertisement masquerading as a mini-documentary on the housing crisis contains inaccuracies and distortions. That doesn’t matter. The thing is a work of genius.

The Conservative Leader has taken ownership of an issue critically important to many Canadians: the seeming impossibility of ever being able to afford a home, or even rent one.

Liberals hike income requirement for foreign students, targeting ‘puppy mill’ schools

OTTAWA – Immigration Minister Marc Miller says Ottawa will require foreigners applying to study in Canada to have double the amount of funds currently required.

Miller says the change is among those meant to ensure international students aren’t left vulnerable to sketchy employers and unable to afford life in Canada.

He is also warning provinces the Liberals might limit visas if colleges and universities don’t adequately support students, but he tells reporters that governments need to have more conversations before such changes.

This is garbage. The Liberals are doing their best to keep the scam going. No one will be monitoring results of the “fix.”

Always a silver lining … York University’s low enrolment and reliance on international students putting school at risk: auditor general

York University’s reliance on international students from China and India, as well as its steadily decreasing domestic enrolment, is putting the institution at risk, according to Ontario’s auditor general.

A report released by acting auditor general Nick Stavropoulos on Wednesday found that 23 per cent of the university’s undergraduate programs had 20 or fewer students enrolled.

Despite this, the number of senior administrators have increased by 37 per cent between 2018-19 and 2022-23. The audit found that 250 new positions had been added primarily to academic staff and faculty while tuition revenue and government grant funding remained flat.

Hunter Biden has been indicted on nine tax-related charges, including three felony counts, according to court documents filed Thursday in a federal court in Los Angeles.

The indictment alleges that “rather than pay his taxes, the Defendant spent millions of dollars on an extravagant lifestyle.”

Joly condemns Hamas rapes of Israeli women after weeks of pressure

Today marks both the two month anniversary of the war in Gaza and the start of the Hanukkah festival period. For Jews worldwide, it is a sombre occasion as this is the first Jewish festival since the Oct 7 attacks that saw gunmen storm communities near the border with the Gaza Strip, killing hundreds of Israelis and taking hostages.

As the war has unfolded, both anti-Semitism and Islamophobia have skyrocketed. In the 61 days inclusive between the Hamas terror attack on Israel and Dec 6, Community Security Trust (CST) recorded at least 1,890 anti-Semitic incidents across the UK.

Not a good look.

Emissions cap shows the government is ‘backing away’ from the unpopular carbon tax

OTTAWA — The federal government’s plan for capping emissions in the oil and gas sector, announced Thursday to coincide with the COP28 climate conference in Dubai, wasn’t as bad as Alberta’s worst fears but still earned a fiery rebuke from the province’s premier.

The policy, which aims to cap 2030 emissions at 35 to 38 per cent below 2019 levels, may be symbolic of the Liberal government’s declining zeal for what was once its flagship policy: the carbon tax.

European Jews will be gone by 2050

Country by country, the numbers are collapsing. “There is no future for them here…” says Dutch author Leon de Winter

Yonathan Arfi, president of the Jewish Representative Council in France, reveals that parents have told their children not to wear kippahs or the Star of David on the street or on public transport for fear of being attacked. Jews removed their names from mailboxes and doorbells or changed names on their Uber accounts for security reasons.

One of the country’s most popular radio and television entertainers, stage name “Arthur” (real name Jacques Essebag), shocked the country when he revealed he had been living under guard since October 7. “This is France in 2023, I live in Paris and I have agents protecting me and my family because I’m Jewish, isn’t that crazy?”, Arthur said.

Islam, it’s incurable.

No White Faculty Allowed

At the University of Washington, civil rights laws have not stopped blatant racial discrimination in faculty hiring.

A recent internal investigation into faculty hiring at the University of Washington reveals the exhaustive efforts that universities make to discriminate against white job applicants. After the university’s Department of Psychology identified a white candidate as best qualified for a tenure-track professor position in early 2023, the department’s Diversity Advisory Committee pressured the hiring committee to re-rank candidates in accordance with the methodology laid out in an internal handbook titled “Promising Practices for Increasing Equity in Faculty Searches” so that a black woman would receive the job instead. This handbook, obtained by the National Association of Scholars, spells out how to exclude candidates of undesirable races and ensure that candidates of preferred races get hired.

Expect some food prices to get cheaper next year — but typical grocery bills may still go up by $700

Savvy shoppers should be able to find a few bargains at the grocery store next year, but even with prices for some essentials falling the typical Canadian family’s overall grocery bill is set to increase by about $700 next year.

That’s the main takeaway from a closely watched annual report on the food industry, the 14th version released Friday by Dalhousie University, University of Guelph, University of British Columbia and University of Saskatchewan.

Next stop Government Bugs.

Bringing broken survivors of the Israel Nova festival attack back from darkness

“You can cry here,” the sign reads in pale blue lettering on a clean white background.

Beyond it, comfortable sofas piled with cushions are screened off from the rest of the room. It’s a safe, private corner where survivors of the Nova music festival can be with others who went through the same ordeal on 7 October, and get the mental health support many of them desperately need.

More than 360 young partygoers were shot, beaten or burnt to death by Hamas attackers, who stormed the festival site near the Israel-Gaza perimeter fence early that morning. Another 40 were taken hostage.

Hamas on Campus: Students for Justice in Palestine

Many pro-Hamas demonstrations that have been taking place on US campuses since Hamas launched its war on Israel on October 7, when more than 3,000 Hamas terrorists invaded and raped, pillaged, murdered and kidnapped their way through the small communities of southern Israel, have reportedly been led by a radical organization known as National Students for Justice in Palestine (NSJP), which, according to a report in The Atlantic, announced a “national day of resistance”.

Denmark parliament adopts bill prohibiting Quran burnings

The Danish parliament on Thursday approved legislation that would effectively prohibit Quran burnings in the northern European country.

The law criminalizes the “inappopriate treatment of writings with significant importance for a recognized religious community.”

The bill was passed with 94 votes in favor by the Danish Parliament, also known as the 179-member Folketing. Seventy-seven votes were cast against the legislation.

Burning, tearing, or defiling religious texts in public could land people up to one or two years behind bars or a fine. Destroying a holy text on video and then disseminating the footage online could also put offenders in jail.
