John Robson: When They Come for the Menorah, Don’t Think It’s Only About Jews

Can you think of a better time to tell Jews to keep their symbols out of our public spaces than while Hamas supporters roam Canada chanting “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free?” Moncton City Council apparently couldn’t.

For the first time in 20 years, no Hanukkah menorah in front of city hall for you. Council has now commendably backed down, and will install the menorah (and the nativity scene they had also nixed). But here it’s important to understand that, as Queen’s history professor Don Akenson once said, people may have small ideas, but “big ideas have people.” Including that sophisticated, inclusive respect for “religion” requires forbidding any actual religious practices.

Israel takes out half of Hamas’ battalion commanders

Israel’s army has killed half of Hamas’ battalion commanders since the war in Gaza began — including one caught on eerie video roaming the terror group’s tunnel network before his death, Israel said Tuesday.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamim Netanyahu reaffirmed his nation’s goal to eradicate Hamas when speaking to reporters — and claimed that the terrorist group has already lost about a dozen leaders of its estimated 24 battalions fighting in Gaza, the Times of Israel reported.

“We are settling accounts with all those who kidnapped, participated, murdered, slaughtered, raped and burned the daughters of our people,” Netanyahu said. “We will not forget, and we will not forgive.”

Duelling housing messages showcase different Conservative, Liberal strategies

OTTAWA – Every week now for more than a month, cabinet ministers have been appearing in front of cameras on Parliament Hill in an effort to convince Canadians that the Liberal government has the housing crisis in hand.

Ever since Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s summer cabinet shuffle, they’ve been scrambling to be seen making the cost of living a top priority, hoping to catch up to the runaway Conservatives on the issue of affordability.

Like clockwork, Housing Minister Sean Fraser appeared Tuesday alongside Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland, this time to announce millions in spending to build or upgrade thousands of co-operative homes.

FBI says U.S. is facing highest risk of attack in YEARS: There are ‘blinking lights everywhere’ and warns terrorists will ‘exploit’ the southern border

FBI director Christopher Wray has warned that the United States is facing the highest risk of a terrorist attack in years in the aftermath of the October 7 Hamas atrocity in Israel.

Wray warned the Senate Judiciary Committee that there are ‘blinking red lights everywhere’ when asked to assess the ‘threat matrix’ faced by the U.S.

‘The threat level has gone to a whole ‘other level since October 7,’ Wray said.

Not sure whether he means Catholics or Mohammedans.

Tom Mulcair: Poilievre keeps scoring into the Liberals’ empty net

There really does appear to be a surliness in the land, perhaps fuelled by pent-up sentiments after several years of lockdowns, isolation and kids at home from school. The sudden return of high inflation(opens in a new tab) has no doubt contributed to the resentment.

Several premiers who were riding high after the pandemic have landed with a thud.

Doug Ford and Francois Legault were easily elected to second majority terms as their provinces exited the health crisis. Blaine Higgs of New Brunswick had earlier turned his minority government into a majority.

French Media Hide True Identity of Paris Attacker

The dark series of crimes inflaming French public opinion continues with a murder in the heart of the capital on Saturday night, December 2nd. Once again, controversy has erupted over the identity of the assailant, which the media and the political class were at pains to conceal in order to avoid facing up to the harsh realities of Islamism and immigration.

The attack took place in southwest Paris, not far from the Seine and the Eiffel Tower. A German tourist was killed, and two other people were injured. The German tourist suffered several blows to the head, back, and shoulders. Two other people were injured in the attack. One of them, an English tourist, was hit in the eye with a hammer.

Conservatives say credibility of foreign interference probe undermined by denying them full standing in first phase

The Official Opposition is criticizing the judge running the public inquiry into foreign interference for not granting the Conservative Party full standing in the first phase of this probe, a decision that means they cannot ask questions of witnesses or gain access to any secret evidence gathered.

The first part of the foreign interference inquiry will examine foreign interference by states such as China in the 2019 and 2021 federal elections. The second phase will examine what reforms are necessary to fight foreign interference.

‘War on Christmas’: Movement to Cancel Holiday in Canada Seen Before in Communist Regimes

The Canadian Human Rights Commission said in a recent report that having statutory holidays for Christian celebrations such as Christmas is “a form of discrimination … deeply rooted in our identity as a settler colonial state.”

It’s the latest shot across the bow in what’s often called a “war on Christmas,” primarily driven by those seeking to secularize public life, says Christmas expert and historian Gerry Bowler of the Frontier Centre for Public Policy.

New House Committee Report Details How FBI ‘Abused Its Counterterrorism Tools’ To Target Catholics

The FBI “abused its counterterrorism tools to target traditional Catholic Americans as potential domestic terrorists,” and the agency had “no legitimate basis” to insert itself into Catholic churches, a new House committee report shows.

As part of its investigation into Catholics, the FBI interviewed a priest and choir director, according to detailed findings released Monday by the House Judiciary Committee and its select subcommittee on the weaponization of the federal government.

Saving America Starts with Rejecting Digital Currency

America in the twenty-first century has been on an accelerating descent not unlike what befell ancient Rome. For some four centuries Rome’s Senate and constitution provided continuity which sustained the Roman Republic through various challenges. But in the end, what befell Rome from barbarian invasion, political corruption, and mobs that were manipulated and used by its Caesars, was a rampage against reason and freedom, leading to the Republic’s demise and transition to a centralized imperial authority under emperors.

Wilders, Islam and Bari Weiss

Will Ms. Weiss’ post-October 7th epiphany extend to sympathetic Free Press editorial coverage of Geert Wilders?

Geert Wilders and his Partij voor de Vrijheid (PVV), “Party For Freedom,” burst out of the Netherlands’ political wilderness with a resounding victory last Wednesday, 11/22/23. Now endeavoring to cobble together a governing coalition, Wilders observed, aptly,

“The PVV is a broad popular party. The largest in the Netherlands. 2.4 million people voted for us. Highly and poorly educated, native and immigrant, workers, retirees, young people, and the elderly. From the city, the countryside. The PVV is for everyone.”

Not likely to happen. She still sips the kool-aid.

Will It Be Riot Season Again in 2024?

Conservatives must learn the lessons of 2020—and prepare.

The resurgence of public protests in support of Hamas has revealed a disturbing truth: the left-wing rioting following George Floyd’s death in 2020 was not an anomaly, but a tactic that activists can repurpose for any cause. Whether by coincidence or design, these recent outbursts could be a dress rehearsal for possible violence during next year’s election campaign.

Conservative leaders must prepare for that prospect. To prevent 2020 from repeating itself in 2024, conservatives need to consider what might spark a riot, how it can be prevented, and how to understand and manage the politics of rioting.

Higher Ed Has Become a Threat to America

Those were the days… Delta Delta Delta, Texas University of Texas, Austin 1944

Our corrupt, radical universities feed every scourge from censorship and crime to antisemitism.

America faces a formidable range of calamities: crime out of control, borders in chaos by design, children poorly educated while sexualized and politicized against parental opposition, unconstitutional censorship, a press that does government PR rather than oversight, our institutions and corporations debased in the name of “diversity, equity and inclusion”—and more. To these has been added an outbreak of virulent antisemitism.

Every one of these degradations can be traced wholly or in large part to a single source: the corruption of higher education by radical political activists.
