David Sacks: the tech reset has only just begun

The PayPal co-founder predicts that Elon Musk has started a great reckoning

As the cheap money era draws to a close, perhaps no industry has been worse affected than the tech sector. Last year, there were nearly 100,000 job cuts — an astonishing 649% increase from the nearly 13,000 tech jobs that were cut in 2021. And this year the picture doesn’t look much rosier: from Apple to Amazon (which cut a further 18,000 employees this week), job cuts are happening across the board.

So where does this leave Twitter’s new chief, Elon Musk? Like other tech CEOs, the entrepreneur has announced a significant reduction to his new workforce, with reports suggesting that as much as 75% of employees are leaving. But astonishing as this figure may seem, Twitter has actually grown in activity and downloads under its new leadership. What could explain this?

Residents Of Chicago’s Woodlawn Neighborhood Protest Shelter For Migrants

“While I’ll love to help immigrants and everybody else, I’ll like to help my own first,” said longtime Woodlawn resident Jean Clark.

Residents of a Chicago neighborhood protested preparations to establish a migrant shelter inside a closed-down elementary school, allegedly without the locals’ permission.

A group of Woodlawn residents gathered Thursday morning to insist the community provide resources for locals rather than the migrants, the Chicago Tribune reported. The city reportedly plans to convert Wadsworth Elementary School into housing for migrants relocated to the city.

Wow! Is that ever racist!

Billie Eilish: Climate Anxiety ‘Makes Me Want to Barf‘ but I Won‘t Stop Selling Merch, Traveling

Pop singer and climate change alarmist Billie Eilish claims that her fear of global warming makes her feel ill — but admits she won’t stop selling merchandise or traveling the world via jet airplanes.

The 21-year-old Eilish recently told Vogue that she constantly suffers “climate anxiety” and feels the world is not doing enough to put off the crisis that, every ten years, leftists predict is only ten years away.

It’s not racist or xenophobic to question our immigration policy

Canada is experiencing a population boom.

Figures released recently by the federal government are quite staggering: the country grew by 437,000 new residents in 2022 and projections from Ottawa indicate that roughly 1.45 million more will join them over the next three years. According to a recent story in The Globe and Mail, since 2016, Canada has grown at nearly double the average rate of its G7 peers.

In most cases, however, it isn’t newborns enhancing our population growth but adults coming to Canada through our immigration and refugee program – a fact that has consequences far and wide.

Bruce Pardy: Sovereignty bills signal discontent in Trudeau’s woke Canada

The new year begins with Alberta and Saskatchewan on the warpath, thank goodness. In December, the Alberta Sovereignty within a United Canada Act received Royal Assent, while the Saskatchewan First Act recently passed second reading in the Saskatchewan legislature. These Acts will be of limited usefulness as legal instruments, and neither will change the Constitution. But that is not the game here. Alberta and Saskatchewan’s most potent defence against the dual threat of an interventionist federal government and legally imaginative Supreme Court of Canada is broad political dissent. These two bills signal a long winter of discontent with and challenge to the prevailing order.

Who will benefit from digital currency? Not the public

YEAR after year, legislation is passed or systems are changed for no apparent reason and without any public debate. One such intrusion that’s coming down the road at speed is the Central Bank Digital Currency.

It will be argued that as cheques have mainly had their day and cash isn’t far behind, further simplifying payments is the way to go. A large proportion of the public already use credit cards and phone apps to pay for goods and services. Many of us use online banking. But we still pay for ‘odd jobs’ and so on in cash. Cash provides people with the ability to transact with one another without recourse to any other authority, and with high levels of privacy. It all works perfectly well. However if the banks and various political and financial organisations have their way, we will be compelled to carry out all transactions in a completely traceable way.

Pro-war Russia enraged over military failings

With frustration building about command incompetence, the demand for hapless commanders to be replaced is unlikely to ease up.

There’s one thing Western and Russian military strategists agree on — crowding a large number of mainly new conscripts inside a building within range of Ukrainian missiles so that they could see in the new year was a fatal error.

“They should never have been there,” said Britain’s retired Air Vice-Marshal Sean Bell.

Reportedly, around 600 Russian troops were at the college in Makiivka when it was struck by four American-supplied HIMARS rockets on New Year’s Day. Russia says 89 soldiers were killed — the highest single battlefield loss Moscow has acknowledged since the war began — while Ukraine estimates the death toll nearer 400.

10 Key Revelations in Idaho Murder Case

MOSCOW, Idaho — After weeks of unease over the murders of four University of Idaho students in a house near campus, the authorities this week released their most detailed account yet of the investigation that led them to arrest a criminology student from a nearby university.

The documents detail an array of evidence about the suspect, Bryan Kohberger, 28, a graduate student at Washington State University, who said through a lawyer that he looks forward to being exonerated. The records also provided jarring new details about the night the four students were murdered, while raising fresh questions about a mystifying case in which authorities have not explained a possible motive.

Europe at the Mercy of Qatar?

Belgian federal police recently found €150,000 ($157,700) in cash at the Brussels home of the Vice-President of the European Parliament, Eva Kaili (Panhellenic Socialist Movement), who was then arrested and charged with corruption. She remains in jail. Also arrested were Luca Visentini, secretary general of the International Trade Union Confederation, and former socialist MEP Pier-Antonio Panzeri. Nolte: Movie Attendance Collapses 48% over Four Very Woke Years

Between 2018 and 2022, movie theater attendance dropped in half, and I do not want to hear any excuses about the pandemic.

People will go to the theater to see a movie that appeals to them. Spider-Man: No Way Home proved this last year. Top Gun: Maverick proved it this year. Avatar: Way of the Water is proving it right now. And those are just the blockbusters.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH: Mark Levin Calls on GOP to Investigate George Soros

Conservative radio host Mark Levin has apparently had it with leftist billionaire George Soros wielding colossal influence over American politics and society.

Levin tweeted on Jan. 5 that “Soros has spent decades using enormous sums of money to overthrow our society.” He then called on the “[t]he GOP [to] look at what [Soros’] massive network of anti-American groups are doing.” MRC Business can help with that. Levin’s tweet came just before MRC Business released its second report in its three-part research series on Soros’ enormous ties to the global media.

Brigitte Macron backed an ‘erect phallus with golden balls’ as the new spire for Notre Dame cathedral, France’s former culture minister claims

Macron proposed an ‘erect phallus with golden balls’ as the new spire for the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris, the former culture minister has claimed.

Roselyne Bachelot, 76, recounted in her memoirs how she was shocked when the First Lady presented her risqué plans for the iconic landmark over lunch.

After fire ravaged the iconic gothic cathedral in 2019, Emmanuel Macron held an international competition to redesign the spire and roof.

Could be France is getting what it deserves.
