The US drew up a plan to invade Canada in 1930. Now Trump is reviving old fears
First, American forces would strike with poison gas munitions, seizing a strategically valuable port city. Soldiers would sever undersea cables, destroy bridges and rail lines to paralyze infrastructure. Major cities on the shores of lakes and rivers would be captured in order to blunt any civilian resistance.
The multipronged invasion would rely on ground forces, amphibious landing and then mass internments. According to the architects of the plan, the attack would be short-lived and the besieged country would fall within days.
The target was Canada, part of a classified 1930 strategy – War Plan Red – for a hypothetical war with Great Britain where the US would seek to deny it any foothold in North America.

Iranian security forces shot dead a teenage motorcycle influencer who posted videos of herself online without a headscarf, human rights groups have reported.
Diana Bahador, a 19-year-old from northern Gonbad-e-Kavus known online as Baby Rider, was killed on Jan 8 in Gorgan during protests against the Islamic Republic.
She was reportedly shot twice with live ammunition around midnight, and her body was returned to her family two days later, the Hyrcani Human Rights group reported.

‘Nothing to do with it’: Doug Ford responds to criticism over Ontario manufacturer’s contract with ICE
Ontario Premier Doug Ford says he has “nothing to do with” a contract held by a Brampton-based defence manufacturer to supply U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) with armoured vehicles.
Ford made the comment during a news conference on Tuesday morning after he was asked about criticism of the deal between Roshel and the U.S. government.
His response came after NDP Leader Marit Stiles released a statement “calling for an end” to Ontario manufacturing contracts with ICE in the wake of the shooting of two U.S. citizens in Minnesota this month.

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) was accosted and sprayed with an unknown substance Tuesday by a man who rushed the stage with a syringe at a chaotic town hall event in Minnesota.
Omar was at the podium criticizing Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and calling for abolishing ICE when Anthony Kazmierczak – shouting inaudible remarks – allegedly charged her from the row closest to her lectern and sprayed liquid in the direction of her chest.

Family distraught after Canadian doctor euthanized man, 26, because he was diabetic and blind
A Canadian family has been left heartbroken and angry after a 26-year-old diabetic and blind man died of ‘physician-assisted suicide’ – three years after they blocked his request for euthanasia.
Margaret Marsilla had been successfully able to prevent her son Kiano Vafaeian from dying under Canada’s Medical Assistance in Dying program back in 2022.
She noted that Vafaeian did not suffer from any terminal illnesses. He was just blind and struggling with complications from type 1 diabetes as well as mental health issues.

CSIS warned immigration posed security risks in secret 1988 memo
Canada’s spy agency warned nearly four decades ago that rising immigration levels could undermine national security, according to a newly released CSIS memo that flagged the immigration stream itself as a growing source of threats.
Blacklock’s Reporter says the six-page, heavily censored 1988 document, obtained through Access to Information, concluded that immigration flows from politically unstable regions were likely to generate security risks for Canada.

Yesterday, after a five-day trial at Birmingham Crown Court, a Pakistani national was found guilty of raping an 18-year-old girl in Nottinghamshire. Sheraz Malik, 28, met his victim at Sutton Lawn Park, Sutton-in-Ashfield, on 29 June last year. The girl had been drinking with a male friend, and was drunk when she was introduced to Malik. He was among a larger group of older men.
