Gunman kills 35 in attack starting at Thai child care center

A gunman who attacked a child care center in Thailand and then fired from his car as he fled killed more than 30 people Thursday, including two dozen children, authorities said.

It was the deadliest mass shooting in the country’s history. The assailant, identified as a former police officer, killed his wife and child before taking his own life.

Photos and videos posted online of the day care showed the floor of one room was smeared with blood and sleeping mats scattered about. Pictures of the alphabet and other colorful decorations adorned the walls.

Russian forces shot comrade trying to surrender, says Ukrainian soldier

A Russian soldier in Kherson tried to surrender but was shot in the back by his comrades, a Ukrainian soldier has told The Telegraph.

“One of them fell to the ground at the sight of us and shouted ‘just don’t kill please, I want to live’,” said Oleksiy*, describing the moment he came face to face with Russia’s forces. “His guys started shooting from behind his back, hitting him.”

Oleksiy, a 20-year-old from a small town in Luhansk whose name has been changed for safety reasons, is fighting on the frontline in Kherson as part of Ukraine’s fastest advances of the war so far.

Feds ask court to dismiss $2.5 billion class-action lawsuit brought on by Black public servants

The federal government is asking a judge to dismiss a proposed class-action lawsuit brought forward by a group of Black public servants, who allege discriminatory practices within the public service.

The plaintiffs, led by the Black Class Action Secretariat, filed their suit against the federal government in December 2021 and are seeking damages of $2.5 billion and a court order to implement a “justice and equity promotional plan.” In their statement of claim, they say Black employees have been denied promotions and jobs because of their race and faced harassment and belittlement.

A Royal Navy engineer denied sexually assaulting a male colleague and told a court martial he couldn’t have done it as he was “demisexual”.

Able Seaman Triss Smythe told the hearing that he must be innocent as being demisexual meant he needed to form a strong emotional bond with anyone before he could even begin to think about sexual contact.
