Gunmen kill nine in South Africa tavern attack

A manhunt is under way after a shooting at a tavern in South Africa left nine people dead and another 10 injured.

Police said seven men and two women were killed in Bekkersdal, near Johannesburg, after about 12 unidentified gunmen arrived in two vehicles and opened fire at patrons.

The shooting happened at about 01:00 local time on Sunday (23:00 GMT Saturday) and the perpetrators “continued to shoot randomly as [people] fled the scene”, police added.

South Africa has one of the highest murder rates in the world. Sixty-three people were killed every day on average between April and September this year, according to police figures.

RCMP investigating Ryan Wedding, aiming to lay charges in Canada

The RCMP says it is actively investigating Ryan Wedding’s alleged criminal activities, in the hopes of laying criminal charges in Canada against members of the organization.

In the wake of charges in the U.S. against Canadians allegedly tied to the Wedding organization, two senior Mounties told The Globe and Mail that they are continuing to pursue their own probe.

“The outcome that is wanted, of course, is to lay charges here in Canada, if we can,” said Superintendent Marie-Eve Lavallée of Eastern Region RCMP, which is leading the Canadian investigation out of Montreal. “If we have enough to charge here, we will.”

So Canada is only now investigating???

Pro-Life Nativity Scene Displayed in Vatican

A nativity scene from Latin America was given to Pope Leo XIV to be displayed throughout the Christmas season at the Vatican, carrying a special message that particularly touched the pope: it represents the victory of life and invites us to pray for all abortions perpetrated throughout the world.

Traditionally, the Vatican receives nativity scenes and Christmas trees as gifts to be displayed in the buildings occupied by the pope and in St. Peter’s Square. The nativity scene decorating the Paul VI Hall in the Pope’s residence this year comes from Costa Rica and is entitled Nacimiento Gaudium.

Isn’t this an odd commentary on our times.

David Kaufman: Don’t fall for the false Islamophobia-antisemitism equivalency

Politicians and pundits are everywhere right now, warning of the risk of Islamophobia in the wake of the Hanukkah massacre in Sydney, Australia, last weekend. There was Rep. Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez on X on Monday, decrying that “the normalization and acceptance of Islamophobia in our politics is disgusting.” And rabid pro-Palestinian commentator Mehdi Hasan, also on X, reminding readers that “Islamophobia is always wrong” as he performatively condemned the Bondi Beach killings.

US intercepts second merchant vessel off coast of Venezuela in international waters

US forces on Saturday stopped a second merchant vessel off the coast of Venezuela in international waters, according to two US officials, the Associated Press reported.

The move comes days after Donald Trump announced a “blockade” of all sanctioned oil tankers coming in to and out of the South American country and follows the seizure by US forces of an oil tanker off Venezuela’s coast on 10 December.

The officials were not authorized to discuss publicly the ongoing military operation and spoke on condition of anonymity, the AP said.

Brown police chief running ‘s–tshow’ department while touting lefty views for years before deadly shooting

Brown University’s police chief Rodney Chatman — a progressive, “toxic,” teddy-bear hugging, chief running a “s—tshow” department — is being criticized for the lax security measures and lack of surveillance that allowed Claudio Neves Valente to gun down two students and get away.

Chatman, Brown’s vice president for public safety and emergency management, has come under scrutiny after the campus security breakdown which saw freshman students Mukhammad Aziz Umurzokob and Ella Cook slaughtered in a classroom of a physics building on Dec. 13, during a study session just before finals week.

Anti-immigrant sentiment rises with loss of consensus on immigration policy

OTTAWA — Canada’s long-held consensus on immigration — that it’s a net positive for the country — has been coming apart in recent years.

Roughly half of the population thinks too many immigrants have been coming to Canada, according to several private polling firms.

That parallels a government survey from November 2024, when 54 per cent of respondents to a phone survey conducted by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada said “too many” immigrants were coming to Canada.

It’s not “anti-immigrant” to fight back when your country is being stolen from under your feet, when you can’t buy a home, afford rent or even find a job because the elites profit from the cheap foreign labour they import.

It’s called self-defense and it’s not racist.

The Liberals are cooking the books and actually staying on track to nearly meet Trudeaus nation killing goals.

Pro-asylum seeker bishop appointed head of Catholic Church in England

Richard Moth, the incoming Archbishop of Westminster, likened Mary, Joseph and Jesus to migrants arriving in Britain

The newly appointed head of the Catholic Church in England compared Jesus, Mary and Joseph to migrants arriving in Britain.

Bishop Richard Moth, the Bishop of Arundel & Brighton since 2015, said the Holy Family had to travel to Egypt as refugees and called on Catholics to “empathise with all who come to this country for their safety”.

On Friday, Pope Leo XIV announced him as the 12th Archbishop of Westminster.

GUNTER: Eby’s anti-oil stance could force Washington State pipeline route

How’s this for a win-win deal? Alberta lets Premier David Eby, his B.C. NDP government and radical, anti-development First Nations group live in their little “green” bubble west of the Rockies while Alberta finds an investor or investors to build a pipeline to the West Coast through Montana, Idaho and Washington state.

Islamic State is back: Jungle jihadis threaten Southeast Asia

In early November, Sajid Akram, 50, and his bricklayer son Naveed, 24, travelled from Australia to the Philippines. Their destination was Davao, a city in Mindanao, the second-largest of the Philippines’ many thousands of islands — and a region in which the notorious terror organisation Islamic State is regrouping. Here, the Akrams spent four weeks receiving military-style training.

When they returned to Australia, the pair perpetrated the worst terrorist massacre in the nation’s history — murdering 15 people at a Hanukkah celebration on Bondi Beach, turning what should have been a day of bright, joyful warmth into a day of horror. If it weren’t for the bravery of citizens in thwarting the attack, the death count would have been far higher.
