It’s Not About the Guns: The Wrong Lesson From the Bondi Beach Attack

It may be too early for an in-depth analysis of the horrific attack on a Hanukkah gathering at Australia’s famous Bondi Beach, beyond the obvious fact that it was yet another act of Islamist terror, the latest in a long line of attacks meant to murder Jews. But it’s not too early to draw a single, transparently obvious conclusion. The Bondi Beach attack totally undermines the common progressive focus on the guns rather than the shooters.

The guns at Bondi Beach didn’t simply jump out of a car and begin shooting on their own. They were brought to the location by a father and son team of Islamist terrorists who used them to murder 15 people, including a ten-year-old girl who was deliberately targeted as she tried to run away.

NDP failed to sell itself as viable option in April election, report says

New Democrats went into the federal election earlier this year feeling that the odds were against them, given the dynamics of a race that sidelined their party, according to a wide-ranging report on the NDP’s poor performance.

The review-and-renewal report by Ottawa lawyer Emilie Taman, a former NDP candidate, says New Democrats concluded that voters had adopted a “Trump/Carney/Poilievre” mindset before the campaign began in March and that the party was ill-equipped to deal with it.

Let’s list NDP strongpoints

1) Stupid
2) Communist
3) Stupid Communists
4) Singular Achievement – A leader less popular than Trudeau

Trump and top aides refuse to rule out war with Venezuela

Donald Trump and his top advisers have refused to rule out the potential for open conflict with Venezuela as Nicolás Maduro urged his navy to escort oil tankers defying the largest US fleet deployed in the region in decades.

In an interview broadcast on Friday morning, Donald Trump told NBC News that going to war with Maduro’s regime remains on the table. “I don’t rule it out, no,” he said in a phone interview with the network.

And at a year-end press conference at the state department, Marco Rubio doubled down on remarks by other top Trump advisers that the US could coerce Maduro through its campaign of strikes on alleged drug boats travelling toward the United States.

Gun-control wackos are actually blaming TRUMP after the shooting at Brown

Even while law-enforcement officers hunted for the gunman who murdered two students and wounded nine others at Brown University in Rhode Island last week, gun restrictionists unleashed their typical unhinged rhetoric.

Take the reliably partisan Sen. Chris Murphy, who blamed President Donald Trump for engaging in a “dizzying campaign to increase violence in this country.”

The anger is performative and cynical.

Let Them Eat Twinkies: A Short History of Getting American Hunger Wrong

A few days ago, I read a piece in which a man was quoted as saying, flatly, “I ate dog food,” because he was so poor. The line snagged in my mind, not because I doubted that he had struggled, but because I doubted the arithmetic.

It brought back a much older memory. In the 1980s and 1990s, media stories, television shows, and political rhetoric frequently claimed that elderly Americans were so destitute, they were “forced to eat cat food,” because it was all they could afford. I remember hearing this as a child, and even then it didn’t ring true. I’ve been a pet owner most of my life. I know what cat and dog food cost, even the cheap stuff. And as a mom who often lived on the edge of poverty, I know what human staples cost, too. Tuna, ramen, rice, beans, oatmeal — these have always been cheaper, pound for pound and calorie for calorie, than commercially prepared pet food.

Anand summoned Israel’s envoy to explain turning away of Jew Hatey MPs at West Bank border post

Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand summoned Israel’s ambassador to explain why a delegation of Canadian members of Parliament was refused entry to the West Bank earlier this week.

Ambassador Iddo Moed was called in by Ms. Anand on Tuesday. Myah Tomasi, a spokesperson for Ms. Anand, said Mr. Moed met Global Affairs officials that day to discuss the treatment of the delegation.

Six MPs were part of a delegation of around 30 Canadians that also included representatives of charitable organizations. The group was denied entry to the West Bank by Israeli authorities on

Tuesday, prompting Ms. Anand to publicly voice her disapproval of their treatment.

I’m sure the Israeli envoy tried desperately not to smirk.

One in Three Muslims in France Want Sharia to Rule Entire World: Poll

A survey from the French Institute of Public Opinion (Ifop) has found that at least one in three Muslims living in France believe that the Sharia law should be instituted globally.

In a follow up to its annual survey of Muslim opinion in France, Ifop released another poll of 1,005 Muslims over the age of 15 to specifically examine “the influence of political Islamism” in the country, notably through the Muslim Brotherhood, which the French government has accused of engaging in a decades-long campaign to undermine Western civilization.

Is Mark Carney’s ambitious mobilization plan for the Canadian military doable?

In late October, the Ottawa Citizen published details about an initiative, developed by Chief of the Defence Staff Gen. Jennie Carignan and Deputy Minister Stefanie Beck to significantly boost the numbers of personnel in the ranks.

Hezbollah’s Drug Empire: The Cash Pipeline Fueling Iran’s Most Dangerous Proxy

Hezbollah has built one of the most sophisticated hybrid criminal-terrorist enterprises on earth. Its drug-fueled revenue streams — cocaine from Latin America, Captagon from the ruins of Syria, and money-laundering networks that snake through four continents — now generate billions of dollars annually.

That money buys precision-guided missiles, pays fighters, funds an elaborate social-welfare empire inside Lebanon, and keeps overseas cells active from Buenos Aires to Bangkok.
