CIA playing ‘most important part’ in US strikes in the Caribbean, sources say

The Central Intelligence Agency is providing the bulk of the intelligence used to carry out the controversial lethal air strikes by the Trump administration against small, fast-going boats in the Caribbean Sea suspected of carrying drugs from Venezuela, according to three sources familiar with the operations. Experts say the agency’s central role means much of the evidence used to select which alleged smugglers to kill on the open sea will almost certainly remain secret.

The agency’s central role in the boat strikes has not previously been disclosed. Donald Trump confirmed last Wednesday that he had authorized covert CIA action in Venezuela, but not what the agency would be doing.

DAVIES: What the media missed about our Pierre Poilievre interview

When a clip from our recent interview with Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre went viral, the coverage said more about Canada’s media culture than about the exchange itself. It revealed how quickly political discussions can be stripped of context and turned into outrage fodder, a symptom of a news cycle that rewards speed over substance, and also focuses on polarizing content over nuanced dialogue.

Inside Amazon’s Plans to Replace Workers With Robots

Internal documents show the company that changed how people shop has a far-reaching plan to automate 75 percent of its operations.

Over the past two decades, no company has done more to shape the American workplace than Amazon. In its ascent to become the nation’s second-largest employer, it has hired hundreds of thousands of warehouse workers, built an army of contract drivers and pioneered using technology to hire, monitor and manage employees.

Now, interviews and a cache of internal strategy documents viewed by The New York Times reveal that Amazon executives believe the company is on the cusp of its next big workplace shift: replacing more than half a million jobs with robots.

Is Pierre Poilievre okay?

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre’s recent behaviour doesn’t quite meet the threshold of an all-out spiral. He hasn’t shaved his head like Britney, or started running through the street naked like that guy who created the “Kony 2012” campaign.

But look: When you’re supposed to be the solemn voice for the Official Opposition and yet you’re posting on X about how the Nazis were socialists (but it’s right there in their name!), and trying to rewrite the history of the Freedom Convoy (he referred to the three-week occupation, which effectively shut down Ottawa’s downtown core in 2022, as a “peaceful” protest), and talking about how former prime minister Justin Trudeau should have been arrested for actions he took while in office, you start to look a little unhinged.

The anti-Poilievre faction in the CPC is pushing out the attack articles.

Trump can send troops to Portland, appeals court says

A federal appeals court on Monday said that it would allow President Donald Trump to deploy the National Guard to Portland, Oregon, blocking a judge’s ruling that forbade his administration from sending troops into the city.

The decision from a panel with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit authorizes, for now, Trump’s efforts to place the military in Oregon’s largest city, one of several places where he has sent troops or vowed to do so, including Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., and Chicago.

Asylum seekers baptised in migrant hotel bathtubs

Migrants are being baptised in asylum hotel bathtubs by a Christian charity, The Telegraph can reveal.

Carelinks Ministries, a registered charity linked to the minority Christadelphian sect, has visited hotels across Britain to conduct baptisms in migrants’ bathrooms.
