Judgment Day in Canada

Come Monday, Justin Trudeau may regret calling for a snap election.

Around this time last year, Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau vowed to prioritize managing a pandemic over calling for a politically opportunistic election to bolster his party’s power in Parliament. “I do not want an election,” he said. “I think Canadians want politicians to work together to serve them, to build a better future for them and keep them safe during this crisis.” But that was then. Last month, Trudeau called for a snap federal election in an attempt to gain an outright majority for the Liberal Party, betting that the public will reward him for his handling of Covid-19.

The federal election might not have a clear winner Monday night — here’s why

Canadians might go to bed Monday night without knowing the final results of the federal election. They might not even know who won by Tuesday morning.

That’s because this year, Elections Canada isn’t counting hundreds of thousands of local special ballots — votes from Canadians living in their ridings who opted to vote by mail — until Tuesday.

“The returning office has to go through a set of verifications before they even open a ballot envelope to put it in the box,” said Elections Canada spokesperson Diane Benson.

Nothing good can come of this.

Michael Taube: All conservatives need to realize that a vote for Maxime Bernier is a vote for Justin Trudeau

The federal election is almost a fait accompli, and the final result remains in serious doubt. Hence, it’s critically important for all conservatives, especially supporters of Maxime Bernier’s People’s Party of Canada, to get behind Erin O’Toole and the Conservatives.

I’m not buying that the CPC is a “conservative” party any longer.

Trudeau lambasted over exclusion from US-led military alliance as election nears

Justin Trudeau is facing harsh criticism from political rivals after Canada was excluded from a new international defence pact, days before the country votes in a federal election.

Australia, the United Kingdom and the United State on Wednesday announced a new intelligence sharing agreement meant to counter Chinese influence in the Indo-Pacific region.

Trudeau Called Election to Cover Up Winnipeg Lab’s Unsavory Dealings With Communist China

Tories Accuse Trudeau of Calling Election to Cover Up Winnipeg Lab Collaboration With Chinese Military Scientist

The Conservatives are accusing Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau of calling the election to cover up details of what happened at Canada’s only level 4 laboratory, where a Canadian government scientist reportedly collaborated with a high-ranking Chinese military officer.

“We now know why Justin Trudeau called this early $600-million election, risking the health of Canadians in the middle of a fourth wave of the pandemic: to prevent the release of the Winnipeg lab documents to Parliament, and cover up what happened at the Winnipeg lab,” said Conservative candidate Michael Chong, who is seeking re-election in Wellington-Halton Hills.

With 3 days left until election, O’Toole fixates on vote-splitters and deflects questions on his fate

LONDON, ONT. — With three days left in the 2021 federal election campaign and polling suggesting a Liberal win maybe the most likely outcome, Conservative Leader Erin O’Toole was laser-focused on one message Friday: a vote for any party other than his is a vote for Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau.

“There’s a lot at stake in this election. Justin Trudeau wants you to stay at home on election day. He wants you to vote for smaller parties,” O’Toole said at a London, Ont. campaign stop on Friday afternoon.

GUNTER: Erin O’Toole playing the fool

If he doesn’t believe in his platform, why believe in him?

Want to know why Stephen Harper won three elections (even though two were just won minorities) and Erin O’Toole likely will not win this one?

It’s because, when the liberal establishment — political and media — squawked about some right-of-centre Conservative policy, Harper stood his ground. He ignored the liberal carping and whinging and paid voters the respect of explaining why his ideas would work.

Insiders fear Conservatives are losing the election as party makes a last-minute appeal for help

OTTAWA—The Conservative campaign is making a last-minute appeal for more volunteers as the federal election heads into a crucial weekend for mobilizing supporters and getting out the vote.

But senior party sources are concerned about an “enthusiasm gap” among the party faithful, particularly in the GTA, that could cost the Conservatives in tight riding contests.

“I certainly see a lack of enthusiasm amongst the people I talk to,” said one Tory source, discussing the situation on the condition they not be identified.

Diane Francis: Justin Trudeau’s track record of failure

The Trudeau Liberals have a track record of dismal leadership, yet this country has so much talent and potential

As Canadians go to the polls, it’s important to remind ourselves why Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau should never be prime minister again. Here are my picks, though this is far from a complete list of his government’s botch-ups and scandals.
