Ostrich farm owner warns of broader implications of federal agency ordering mass cull

The owners of an ostrich farm facing a federally mandated mass cull warn that the consequences of the government’s actions go far beyond the farm itself.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has ordered the farm’s 400 ostriches to be killed, after two ostriches tested positive for H5N1 in December. The remaining ostriches are not infected, and the CFIA has rejected the family’s pleas to allow them to bring in experts to test the birds.

‘Easier ways to send messages’ to Trump than bringing in the King: U.S. ambassador

The new U.S. ambassador to Canada says he knows the implication of King Charles III’s upcoming trip to Ottawa is to push back on U.S. President Donald Trump’s 51st state threats — and he says there are “easier ways to send messages” to the American government.

“We’re thrilled that the king will be here,” said U.S. ambassador to Canada, Pete Hoekstra, in an interview with CBC’s The House that will air Saturday. “If there’s a message in there, there’s easier ways to send messages. Just give me a call. [Mark] Carney can call the president at any time.”

Hoekstra added that the annexation saga is “over.”

GOLDSTEIN: In Canada, tolerating intolerance has led to hate

One of the major societal shifts in Canada in recent decades is that we’ve gone from being a tolerant society to one that tolerates intolerance.

The current political and policing paralysis when it comes to dealing with pro-Hamas demonstrations, ostensibly calling for the destruction of Israel, but whose real agenda is to foster hatred against Jews in Canada, is the latest manifestation of it.

This is what happens when you criminalize dissent.

Threatening citizens with hate crime charges for calling out Islamist predation has helped lead us to our current state of affairs.

But make no mistake the greatest crime was the demonic decision by our elites to invite Islamist settlers to Canada.

Why do they hate us?

We need a by-election in Terrebonne

In a less partisan, more conciliatory political environment, there would be cross-partisan consensus about the need for a by-election in the Quebec riding of Terrebonne.

It’s not simply that the margin of victory was razor-thin, with the Liberals’ Tatiana Auguste winning the riding by a single vote. Nor is it about the flip-flopping of the result: Terrebonne was first won by Ms. Auguste, then it flipped to the Bloc Québécois’ Nathalie Sinclair-Desgagné after a validation process, then flipped back to Ms. Auguste following a judicial recount.

It’s a big mess.

Most Canadians feel attached to their home, though only half trust governments: poll

OTTAWA – Most Canadians feel attached to their country, province and municipality but only about half of them trust their governments, a new poll suggests.

The Leger survey, which polled 1,537 Canadians between May 16 and 18, suggests that 82 per cent of Canadians feel attached to their country.

Because the poll was conducted online, it can’t be assigned a margin of error.

FLETCHER: Why do we now need a Ministry of Canadian Identity?

Two unpleasant surprises struck me as I learned the details of Prime Minister Mark Carney’s oversized, largely recycled Liberal cabinet.

One, political correctness has crept ahead again with the rebranding of the ministry of Canadian Heritage to Canadian Identity and Culture. And two, the minister is professional protester Steven Guilbeault.

Canada Had Largest Debt Increase Among G7 Countries Over Last Decade: Fraser Institute

Canada’s total government debt has grown substantially since 2014 and has outpaced nearly every other advanced country’s around the world, according to a new study from the Fraser Institute.

The study, “The Deterioration of Canada’s Finances Internationally” released May 15, compared Canada’s finances during the last 10 years to that of 40 other advanced countries internationally, including G7 countries. The authors found that Canada experienced one of the largest increases in government size over the last decade and now has one of the highest debt burdens of any advanced economy country.

This is how Canada is being run under the LPC.

UK, Canada, France Gang Up On Israel, Demand Ending IDF Operation as Hamas Stalls Hostage Talks

The leaders of the United Kingdom, France, and Canada ganged up on Israel, telling Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to end the military operation in Gaza as the terror group Hamas rejects one ceasefire offer after another.

On Monday night, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer joined French President Emmanuel Macron and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney in ‘condemning’ Israel for the recent ramping up of the military offensive in southern Gaza.

Carney’s window of political opportunity for pipelines is short

The Quebec government is open to an oil pipeline.

More than that: In a podcast interview last week, Premier François Legault mused about building a pipeline to an export terminal in Sept-Iles, on Quebec’s North Shore.

“Could we imagine having a pipeline that goes through northern Quebec which could end, for example, in the port of Sept-Iles?” Mr. Legault said in the interview.

I doubt we will see a pipeline built during WEF Boy’s tenure.

Big streamers argue at CRTC hearing they shouldn’t have Canadian content obligations

A group representing major foreign streaming companies told a hearing held by Canada’s broadcasting regulator on Friday that those companies shouldn’t be expected to fulfil the same responsibilities as traditional broadcasters when it comes to Canadian content.

The Motion Picture Association-Canada, which represents large streamers like Netflix, Paramount, Disney and Amazon, said the regulator should be flexible in modernizing its definition of Canadian content.
