Crisis is coming, and voters may give the federal NDP another look

Somewhere, James Laxer is shedding a wistful tear. Along with Mel Watkins, Cy Gonick and others, Mr. Laxer led the radical Waffle faction within the federal NDP in the late 1960s and early 1970s, whose mission was to pull the party sharply to the left.

They advocated for nationalization of major industries, strict limits on foreign ownership, sharply higher taxes on the wealthy, and perhaps most controversially, withdrawal from NATO. They were organized, disciplined and uncompromising: a party within a party.

Are the Elbow people so stupid they’d vote Lewis in. I’m betting they won’t as Coyne thinks they might.

A Jamaican woman ordered deported from Canada more than five years ago after she was convicted of killing her stepson has won a reprieve.

“Migrant” filmed hurling vile abuse at female cop and vowing to make her his ‘slave’ moans he is the victim of racism after being shamed over his behavior

A migrant who was caught hurling foul-mouthed sexist abuse at a police officer claims he is the victim of racism after being hit with a fine for the vile tirade.

Mohamed Bekkali, 24, a migrant living in Montreal, Canada, filmed himself ranting at a female cop during a traffic stop, telling her: ‘If I want, I’ll buy you and make you my slave.’

‘Filthy f***ing w***e, shut your f***ing mouth, with your b***h face,’ he said to the cop, who had reportedly pulled him over for driving with tinted windows in June 2025.

Is summary execution really so bad?

Fox’s Gutfeld slams NDP convention, says US should ‘build wall around Northern border’

Greg Gutfeld, a Fox News host, has come out shaming the NDP convention for its equity cards — among other things.

Last week, the NDP held their annual convention to pick its party leader — and with it came some viral clips, particularly featuring delegates’ use of equity cards.

Alberta separatists say they have the 177,732 signatures they need to force independence referendum

The group behind the Alberta independence petition said it has received the 177,732 signatures it needs to force a referendum.

Mitch Sylvestre, head of Stay Free Alberta, confirmed to the National Post that it has met the threshold. The petition still needs official approval from Elections Alberta, which will review the signatures according to the Citizen Initiative Act after the petition is submitted after the official deadline of May 2.

Montreal terror suspect linked to al-Qaida evaluated at psychiatric institute

A Montrealer who served time in the past for providing support to the terrorist group al-Qaida — and who was charged last year for allegedly threatening to kill many people in Montreal — could be found criminally responsible for his actions if his case does eventually go to trial, a psychiatrist has determined.

On Tuesday, during a hearing at the Montreal courthouse before Quebec Court Judge Martin Chalifour, a defence lawyer representing Mohamed Abdullah Warsame, 52, confirmed that his client was evaluated at the Philippe Pinel Institute.

Kelly: Quebec’s music and language was MIA at the Junos

The Juno Awards ceremony on Sunday completely ignored Quebec, with the francophone album trophy handed out at an earlier gala, almost no Quebec artists performing (the only one was former Montrealer Allison Russell during the Joni Mitchell tribute), and the only person to utter a word in French was our prime minister.

The Junos are billed as “Canada’s Music Awards.” But based on Sunday night’s gala, that’s false advertising. These Junos apparently don’t include Quebec.

I don’t consider the Juno’s to be “Canadian”. The only talent required is to be a left wing crank.

A policewoman targeted by a barrage of misogynistic insults

“Filthy whore,” “dirty female dog,” “you’re my slave”: a Montreal police officer was subjected to extremely violent language while intervening with a motorist last summer. However, she had no legal means to silence the aggressive man.

Sadistic lesbian foster moms made boy, 12, wear soaking wetsuit and joked ‘Shiver, shiver dumb f**k’ before his horrific death, murder trial hears

Two lesbian foster moms tortured a 12-year-old boy by forcing him to wear a soaking wetsuit as they mocked him in gut-wrenching messages before he was tragically found dead, prosecutors claim.

The disturbing claims about the death of the Canadian child, identified only as LL, have come to light during the murder trial of Becky Hamber, 44, and 46-year-old Brandy Cooney.

LL, who died on December 21, 2022, was found soaking wet, unresponsive, and emaciated in the basement of the couple’s Toronto-area home before being pronounced dead at the hospital, the court was told.

Millions of Americans are now eligible for Canadian citizenship and many are applying ‘just in case’

When Donald Trump was first elected in 2016, New York State resident Ellen Robillard briefly looked into getting Canadian citizenship. Her mother, after all, was born in Nova Scotia.

As a Democrat, Robillard was despondent at the election results, but she abandoned the idea after realizing that her young son wouldn’t be eligible for citizenship under a law that barred Canadians born abroad from passing their citizenship to children if they were also born outside Canada.

Internal RCMP report warns nitazenes could surpass fentanyl as ‘defining issue in Canada’s opioid crisis’

An internal RCMP report says that nitazenes — synthetic opioids police describe as “20 to 40 times more powerful than fentanyl” — could become a defining feature of the opioid crisis in Canada in the coming years.

Those drugs, which have been linked to hundreds of deaths in Canada, “are emerging as a growing threat,” the report says.

‘Equity cards’ arguments take over NDP Leadership Convention: ‘CANADA IS COOKED’

As you already know, the New Democrat Party over the weekend elected a new leader in Avi Lewis.

But prior to him stepping into Jagmeet Singh’s Gucci loafers, there were some other events that took place during the NDP Leadership Convention in Winnipeg.

My suspicion is the Juno’s and the NDP Convention are the same event rebranded.

Raymond J. de Souza: Canada’s long, sad history of non-policing police

The Toronto police have announced that henceforth, and forthwith, to better serve and protect, they will commence … policing!

Pro-Hamas, anti-Israel protesters will no longer be permitted to parade through Jewish neighbourhoods hurling antisemitic invective at the residents. As this deliberately aggressive harassment has been going on for more than two years, the minimal comfort offered by the Toronto police comes rather late in the day, but it is something. Protesters will retain the right to air their grievances — against Israel, against Jews — on the main streets and intersections. No longer can they disturb the peace on residential streets.

‘It’s ridiculous’: U.S. closing historic Border Road to Canadian traffic

COUTTS — Amid the howling winds of the Sweet Grass Hills lies Border Road, a 14-kilometre ribbon of manicured gravel stretching between the United States and Canada.

The shared road is on the Montana side, but Alberta maintains it.

North of the road lives Ross Ford.

On the south, it’s Roger Horgus.

Both are in their 60s but remember childhood days bounding back and forth across the invisible demarcation line to play.
