Barry Appleton: Canada’s ‘hopium’ U.S. trade strategy all talk, no troops

Canada just announced consultations for the Canada-United States-Mexico (CUSMA) trade agreement, copying America’s homework while forgetting we don’t have the same tools to complete the assignment. It’s like showing up to a gunfight with a strongly-worded letter.

Here’s the stark reality: The United States has over 700 trade experts on standby, ready to defend their interests. Canada? Zero. We dismantled our Sectoral Advisory Groups on International Trade (SAGITs) in 2013 to save pennies. Now we’re paying in billions.

Canada recognizes a version of Palestine that only exists in Geneva’s dreams

Hamas performed a public execution on a Gaza City street on Sunday night. Three men in blindfolds, who had been accused of collaborating with Israel, were lowered to their knees in front of hundreds of onlookers. While members of the crowd cheered, jeered and took videos on their phones, the men were shot at point-blank range.

Just hours earlier, a dispatch had come from Ottawa: Canada was officially recognizing a Palestinian state.

‘Canada has values’: Carney defends recognition of Palestinian statehood despite U.S. criticism

OTTAWA — Prime Minister Mark Carney defended on Tuesday his government’s decision to recognize the State of Palestine despite fierce criticism from U.S. President Donald Trump, Republican lawmakers and the Conservative opposition in Ottawa.

Earlier in the day, Trump accused allied nations — which include Canada — of encouraging “continued conflict” in the Middle East by seemingly rewarding terrorist group Hamas.

Canada has values. Carney and his Liberals do not.

Concordia’s woke student handbook wants you to celebrate Nakba Day, but not Christmas

Last week, Concordia student union undergraduate council member Anastasia Zorchinsky took to social media to voice her concerns about the school’s 2025-26 student handbook.

Such handbooks are supposed to include calendars and other useful information for students. But according to Zorchinsky, this year’s agenda doesn’t look like anything that should be handed out at a Canadian university.

The Nova Scotia government, prompted by patriotic Halifax high school students, is reinforcing Canadian pride through its education system with a new policy that mandates playing the national anthem as each school day begins and a petition that calls for the same.

Well if that isn’t a hate crime this most certainly is!

Canada may face ‘punitive measures’ for recognizing Palestinian state: U.S. Republicans

Carney speaks at a Muslim Brotherhood function

OTTAWA — A group of U.S. Republicans warned Prime Minister Mark Carney and allied nations on Friday that recognizing the Palestinian state may invite “punitive measures in response” for being “at odds” with longstanding U.S. foreign policy.

In an open letter, 25 Republican members of Congress and Senators called on Carney to “reconsider” his government’s decision. Carney formally recognized the Palestinian state on Sunday, ahead of his arrival in New York for the United Nations General Assembly.

Khalistani extremist Inderjit Singh Gosal arrested in Canada on firearms charges

Canadian authorities have arrested Inderjit Singh Gosal, a 36-year-old prominent organizer for the banned Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) group and close aide to designated terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, on multiple charges related to the possession of unlicensed firearms.

The arrest took place in Ottawa on September 22. Gosal, a resident of Brampton, Ontario, was arrested by the Peel Police along with two associates while traveling from Brampton to Ottawa, for possession of unlicensed firearms. All three individuals remain in custody and are expected to face formal charges and possible jail time.

Earlier this month ... As Carney resumes diplomatic ties, India accused of renewed threats to Canadians

The RCMP has warned a prominent Sikh activist that his life is in danger, fuelling concerns that India is continuing to target Canadians while Ottawa seeks improved trade ties with the South Asian power.

Inderjeet Singh Gosal told Global News in an interview on Thursday that RCMP national security officers had formally cautioned him last month that he may be killed within weeks.

So the RCMP IS running cover for Khalistanis? I doubt Canadians receive such attention.

Asylum claims in Canada are down nearly 40 per cent in 2025. Here’s why

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Imagine a Western country declaring it has zero irregular migration. It sounds impossible, but that is exactly what the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) claimed last month.

“More than 200 days into this job, we have achieved operational security at the border,” the DHS website touted, echoing U.S. President Donald Trump’s oft-made claims of having halted illegal migration. “Zero illegal immigrants were released into the country in May, June, and July.”

Recognition of Palestinian state puts Canada at odds with U.S.

Canada, Britain and Australia officially recognized a Palestinian state on Sunday, a co-ordinated effort to put pressure on Israel as it wages war in Gaza, and to revive the chances of a two-state solution to the conflict.

Portugal followed suit with a similar statement later in the day, and France is expected to issue its recognition Monday.

The decision by Prime Minister Mark Carney’s government puts it at odds with this country’s most important ally, the United States, and represents a significant shift in Canadian foreign policy, which previously held that such recognition would come only after a negotiated peace agreement between Israeli and Palestinian leaders.

How Israel could retaliate against the growing push for recognition of a Palestinian state

France and Saudi Arabia hope to use this year’s gathering of world leaders at the United Nations General Assembly and the increasingly horrific war in the Gaza Strip to inject new urgency into the quest for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Those efforts include a new road map for eventual Palestinian statehood in territories Israel seized in the 1967 Mideast war, and moves by several Western countries to join a global majority in recognizing such a state before it has been established.

This should be fun.
