Jamie Sarkonak: The TFW program came for youth jobs. Now Poilievre is coming for it

The “immigrants are taking our jobs” line used to be dismissed as a xenophobic trope, stigmatized in Canadian politics with such intensity that it lulled the population into a decade-plus sleep even as wages stagnated. But it’s turned out to be completely true — and only the Conservatives are coming up with solutions to the problem.

On Wednesday, Pierre Poilievre and immigration critic Michelle Rempel Garner announced their proposal to scrap the temporary foreign worker (TFW) program, which in 2023 authorized nearly 240,000 foreigners to work in Canada. This, we’re told, is only the beginning: Rempel Garner promises that more proposals are in the works.

Carney was elected on a wave of tariff panic. Now he has other problems

Fall has always felt like much more of a time to take stock and start over to me than January. Structure returns to life, new routines settle in and everything green turns more gilded and rustling with each passing day, a constant reminder that time ticks by and things change, whether you like it or not.

All of which is to say: Holy smokes, have we ever been on an emotional journey as a country over the past year.

The three fiscal taboos Canada can no longer afford

It’s possible Mark Carney never meant to use the a-word. He was answering a question in French, after all, and you know how that can trip him up sometimes. But there it was.

Asked if the fall budget would be an austerity budget, the Prime Minister did not attempt to deny it. Neither did he answer another question, not asked, a favourite tactic of politicians. Rather, he adapted it to a well-worn formula: “It’s an austerity and investment budget at the same time.”

Coyne’s role as a stenographer for our ruling class is a given.

How he can write an entire column on government spending and the economy without once mentioning that GDP has been destroyed through corporate Canada’s abuse of our immigration system that saw them callously import hordes of unskilled 3rd world migrants is beyond belief.

That’s not a productivity problem Coyne that’s just sleazy businessmen lining their pockets without giving a damn about the cost their greed has inflicted on Canadian society.

GUNTER: Federal Liberals hint at austerity, but don’t count on it

For more than a week now, Prime Minister Mark Carney and federal Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne have been preparing Canadians for an “austerity budget,” and perhaps even public-service layoffs.

Although while talking to reporters this week, Champagne was less committal. He spoke only of “adjustments” to the 440,000 federal civil service.

Automakers cheer pause on federal EV mandate, but want a full repeal of lunatic Liberal policy

Canada’s auto sector won a policy victory on Friday as Prime Minister Mark Carney announced a one-year pause on the federal electric vehicle mandate, which requires 20 per cent of all 2026 model year vehicles sold to be electric, but many in the industry are looking for even more changes.

The Canadian Vehicle Manufacturers Association, a lobby group for three United States-based automakers with operations in Canada, said it will continue to push for a full repeal of the EV mandate. To that end, Carney also announced a 60-day review of the EV mandate.

Carney unveils billions in funding, Buy ̷C̷a̷n̷a̷d̷i̷a̷n̷ Post-National State policy to combat Trump’s tariffs

Prime Minister Mark Carney rolled out a series of measures on Friday that he says will transform Canada’s economy into a force that can withstand the trade shocks of the Trump administration.

The measures announced in the strategy have been targeted to specifically help workers and businesses that have been most impacted by U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs and trade disruptions.

“If you look back over our country’s history, we have turned challenges into opportunities,” Carney said in Mississauga, Ont. “And now, at this moment of profound change, we bear the same responsibilities and we should have the same ambitions as those who came before us.”

I don’t know what he means by Canada. All I see is a 3rd world dumping ground that he helped create.

Government refuses to release data on how many ‘temporary’ migrants leave Canada

This is what Carney and his predator pal Wiseman have in store for you.

The Canada Border Services Agency is refusing to release data on how many international students & temporary foreign workers actually leave the country when their permits expire.

Meanwhile the US gets the job done.

B.C. premier wants temporary foreign worker program cancelled or reformed

In a surprise statement, Premier David Eby called for the end of Canada’s temporary foreign worker (TFW) program — blaming Ottawa’s flawed immigration policies for filling up homeless shelters and food banks.

“The temporary foreign worker program is not working. It should be cancelled or significantly reformed,” Eby said during an unrelated announcement in Surrey, B.C., Thursday.

“We can’t have an immigration system that fills up our homeless shelters and our food banks. We can’t have an immigration system that outpaces our ability to build schools and housing. And we can’t have an immigration program that results in high youth unemployment.

Doug Ford loves the TFW program. Corporate welfare is the God Given right of the ruling class in Dougie’s world.

Avi Benlolo: A void of moral courage at the very heart of the Liberal party

Leadership in the fight against antisemitism is measured not by words, but by action. This week, Quebec MP Anthony Housefather and 31 of his Liberal colleagues signed a statement on “the deplorable rise of antisemitism in Canada.”

It was a clear, moral and necessary acknowledgement of the hatred that is endangering Jewish-Canadians. The statement recognized that a Jewish woman was stabbed in Ottawa solely because she was Jewish; that synagogues, schools and Jewish-owned businesses are under threat; that monuments have been defaced; and that this reality has become chillingly normalized in our country.

A lack of moral courage? Nonsense they made a practical choice.

They just don’t want to upset the Muslims they imported and it’s not a fear of losing the Mohammedan vote bloc.

The LPC likes having these thugs on their side, they’ll come in handy as protection against Canadian citizens.

Chris Selley: Who’s against Canadian jobs for Canadian kids instead of for foreign workers?

Youth unemployment stands at 14.6 per cent, according to Statistics Canada’s latest release. That’s the highest non-pandemic July figure since 2009 (15.9 per cent), at the nadir of the Great Recession. It makes nothing but good sense that Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre would position himself, as he did on Wednesday, foursquare athwart bringing in any more temporary foreign workers to fill positions that certain employers swear blind they cannot fill with younger Canadians at any conceivable price.

The first time abuse of the TFW program made news a way back in 2014 it was discovered that Tim Horton’s actually built imported slaves into their business plan.

Tim Hortons: The Canadian icon Canadians won’t work for

Last week, the CEO of Tim Hortons laid out part of his case for why the chain needs to be able to hire temporary foreign workers. This is what Marc Caira told Bloomberg News: “If you don’t have access to some of the foreign workers where they are required, it will ultimately also impact on the Canadians that work in that area, because we can’t really deliver on the promise that we want in terms of delivering quality service.”

Translation: Let us import these workers, or the double-double gets it.

Elbows? Maybe. But Carney approval definitely down, vote intention returns to near tie

September 5, 2025 – Summer has come and mostly gone, and no trade deal has materialized between Canada and its largest trading partner – the United States. Amid this, Prime Minister Mark Carney’s decision to drop counter tariffs, as well as high expectations on other major issues like housing affordability and “nation building” have contributed to a drop in his personal approval for the first time since assuming the office, and an electoral outlook that is now deadlocked with the Conservatives.

Even the Elbow people will have to admit they were sold a gimmicky slogan and nothing more.

‘Unemployment rate at its highest since ‘pandemic days’

Canadian economy bled 66,000 jobs in August as unemployment rate at its highest since ‘pandemic days’

Canada’s unemployment rate reached nearly its highest point since 2016 as the economy shed 66,000 jobs in August, according to new data from Statistics Canada.

The unemployment rate rose 0.2 percentage points in August to 7.1 per cent, a level last seen in May 2016 if the COVID-19 years of 2020 and 2021 were excluded, the data agency said.

The unemployment rate, or the number of people unemployed out of the total population, has been rising consistently this year, up from a 6.6 per cent rate in January.

Canada delaying plan to force automakers to hit sales targets for EVs next year: sources

Prime Minister Mark Carney is delaying a plan to force automakers to hit minimum sales levels for electric vehicles next year, according to sources knowledgeable of the plans.

The move comes as the industry has struggled under U.S. tariffs

Sources, who spoke on the condition they not be named because they were not authorized to speak publicly, said the EV mandate will be put on pause as the government reviews the policy.

The 60-day review will look at the entire mandate and next steps, the sources said.

Not for a minute do I believe Carney has had a change of heart. He and his wife are ECO-Nazis, EV’s for them, shoe leather for you, that’s if you can afford shoes.

Poilievre’s call to scrap the temporary foreign worker program is a good first step

Today, the federal Conservatives announced their intention, should they form government, to abolish the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP). They also challenged the governing Liberals to do so immediately. We believe that this is a much-needed change of policy, for the simple reason that Canadian jobs should go to Canadians.

Yet abolishing the TFWP would only be a step in the right direction because it’s not the only immigration stream that allows foreign nationals access to our labour market in large numbers. It’s not the only stream that prices young Canadians out of the job market, suppresses wages, and is rife with abuse. The spirit of reform must ultimately extend more broadly.
