Diane Francis: Trudeau has neglected defence — and our enemies will take advantage

Canada’s Liberal government has abrogated its defence obligations. Our military capability has been reduced through neglect and defunding, and Canada, with more coastline than any other country on earth, has a peanut-size navy and virtually no presence in the increasingly important Arctic. Canada’s allies, and its enemies, have taken notice, which will only serve to diminish our influence over international defence policy and participation in western alliances — areas Canada has historically played an outsized role in.

Liberals to set up facial recognition database

The Liberals say they will set up a facial recognition database within two years for 25 million Canadian passport holders, says Blacklock’s Reporter.

The program would see federal agencies compile a database of millions of Canadians’ faces.

“The department must have facial recognition system support capabilities in place no later than October 2023,” the Department of Citizenship wrote in a report.

Poll shows Canadians trust the Internet and know what’s fake news

Heritage Minister Steven Guilbeault’s department has proposed “concrete action” to police news and information on the internet.

Despite Liberal attempts to censor the Internet, the vast majority of Canadians think online information is reliable and people can tell when its not, says the feds own internal polling.

Blacklock’s Reporter said Heritage Minister Steven Guilbeault’s department has proposed “concrete action” to police news and information on the Internet.

“A majority, 80%, believe the online content they consume is factual and truthful,” said a pollsters’ report.

Adam Zivo: Canada needs to talk about China’s apparent election interference

Though the recent election was mostly an expensive waste of time, it highlighted an emerging problem that all Canadians should be worrying about: China’s interference into Canada’s domestic politics.

For months, disinformation experts have been sounding the alarm about influence campaigns organized by the People’s Republic of China. In February, CSIS noted that China is aggressively targeting Canadians — a sentiment which was echoed by the National Security and Intelligence Committee of Parliamentarians, as well as civil society actors such as the Macdonald-Laurier Institute.

Canada is soft on China and the U.S. knows it

Canada was never a global superpower and, frankly, didn’t need to be. Where other nations had military might and economic weight to throw around, we had international goodwill, a reputation for doing the right thing, and an enviable relationship with the United States. Under Prime Minister Justin Trudeau that relationship has now been squandered at the cost of our international credibility.

Daphne Bramham: Meng Wanzhou is free, so now what?

With the Huawei executive’s extradition now taken care of, Canada no longer has an excuse to not clarify its China policy

So long. Farewell. Auf Wiedersehen. Goodbye. And please, Meng Wanzhou, don’t come back.

The Huawei executive can finally leave Vancouver and go home to China after being freed Friday by a New York court that confirmed a “deferred prosecution agreement” on charges of fraud and conspiracy.

Canada’s China Class Blames Trump for Meng Detention – Anxious to display renewed fealty to Xi’s Genocidal regime

Resolving Meng case removes giant thorn from Canada’s business relationship with China

Canada has a strong extradition law with the United States to prevent people accused of crimes from avoiding justice across the border. Some observers suspect the former U.S. administration led by Donald Trump exploited that strong relationship to weaken Canada’s ties with China.

“It depends how cynical you are,” said Houlden, who has worked in China and is well connected in Washington, D.C. “Some would say by putting a spike in Canada-China relations, which the Meng Wanzhou extradition case certainly did, that may well have served U.S. strategic interests as well.”

I may have missed it but I do not recall mention of the Uyghur genocide in this CBC article which reads like a propaganda piece for the Liberal Government’s China Class. Sickening to read that Canada’s trade with China actually increased during the hostage taking.

It’s no wonder Canada has become a pariah among former allies and illustrates why we should never trust the corporate and political classes.

Terry Glavin: Justin Trudeau went all in on China a decade ago — and nothing can shake his resolve

Justin Trudeau has been singularly focused on trade with China, regardless of what the country’s sadistic leadership does

In the way the story’s usually told, relations between Canada and China are said to be at the lowest point in decades, or at an all-time low, or chillier than ever. But any close examination of the relationship will show that what these expressions more precisely describe is an ongoing, abject humiliation of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government by China’s capricious and sadistic supreme ruler, Xi Jinping.

Justin was re-elected thanks to Xi and Canada’s China Class so why wouldn’t he be Gung-ho?

Andrew Richter: Under the Liberals, Canada has effectively disappeared as an international actor

Last week, the United States, United Kingdom and Australia announced a new defence and security partnership, dubbed AUKUS, which is intended to present a unified front toward an increasingly aggressive China, and demonstrate to other countries that the U.S. intends to remain engaged in the Asia-Pacific region for decades to come. Not only was Canada not included in the agreement, but the federal government seemed to be completely blind-sided by the announcement — a reflection of our diminished stature on the world stage.

Conservative vote plunged in Canada’s most Chinese electorates. Did party pay price for tough stance on Beijing?

Almost as soon as he entered Canada’s parliament in 2019, Conservative Kenny Chiu became a prominent advocate for what he called Hong Kong’s “political freedom”, and a tough critic of Beijing.

Weeks after being comfortably elected in Steveston-Richmond East, one of Canada’s most ethnically Chinese electorates, Chiu was back in his birthplace of Hong Kong as an international monitor for the city’s district council elections.

In Toronto, Trudeau’s Rivals See a Chance to Breach His Fortress

Toronto has been Justin Trudeau’s unassailable political fortress ever since he swept to power almost six years ago. In two elections, he’s never lost a seat in Canada’s largest city, and his Liberal Party holds most of the suburbs, too.

It won’t be easy to repeat that, as Trudeau faces attacks on both sides ahead of the Sept. 20 vote. Conservatives think they can snatch seats in outlying areas, but in the urban core, the left-wing New Democratic Party is the biggest threat. Both parties are trying to capitalize on voters’ concerns about an overheated housing market.

Charter Founder Says Covid Restrictions Are Violating Citizen Rights

In an interview released this month, the last surviving architect of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms expressed outrage at the state of democracy in Canada.

Brian Peckford, former premier of Newfoundland, was part of the group of lawmakers and politicians who formulated the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms in the early 1980’s.

In the interview, Mr. Peckford states that he “cannot believe what is happening to our country. I am extremely saddened by government enacting measures that clearly violate the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.”

Chinese COVID Vaccine Based on Technology Developed Jointly by Fired Winnipeg Scientist and PLA Major General: Expert

The COVID-19 vaccine developed by Chinese company CanSino, with whom Ottawa partnered before the deal fell through, used technology developed in a 2016 paper on Ebola by a now-fired scientist from a government laboratory in Winnipeg and a Chinese major general, an expert says.

The government’s partnership on the clinical development of the CanSino vaccine, first announced on May 12, 2020, fell apart on Aug. 26, 2020, after Beijing blocked shipment of the vaccine to Canada.

Canada’s China Class is working hard to suppress the truth of their treason.

GUNTER: Canada lost trust before we were left out of security pact

On Thursday, the United States, U.K. and Australia announced the formation of a security pact to counter China’s growing ambitions in the Indo-Pacific region.

Much of the coverage has centred on a deal that would see the U.S. sell Australia the technology to build nuclear-powered submarines.

But the pact covers far more than Aussie subs. It includes close co-operation on cyberintelligence, artificial intelligence, quantum computing and undersea surveillance. Since cyberspying and hacking are increasingly dangerous forms of state-to-state espionage, this three-way exchange is huge.

It’s also huge that Canada was not included — and it was no accident.
