Quebec researchers say they have found an effective drug to fight COVID-19

A team of researchers from the Montreal Heart Institute believes they have found an effective weapon against COVID-19: colchicine, an oral tablet already known and used for other diseases.

For Dr. Jean-Claude Tardif, who led the study, this is a “major scientific discovery” and colchicine is the first “effective oral drug to treat out-of-hospital patients.”

“To be able to offer this, from Quebec, and for the planet, we are very happy,” said Tardif.

What Was Amazon Waiting For? The timing of the tech giant’s offer to assist vaccine distribution efforts raises some eyebrows.

January 20 was Inauguration Day. It was also the day that a major American employer offered to help in the Covid-19 vaccination effort. In a letter from Amazon’s Worldwide Consumer CEO Dave Clark to newly inaugurated President Joe Biden, the company offered to vaccinate its more than 800,000 “essential” employees and “to leverage our operations, information technology, and communications capabilities and expertise to assist your administration’s vaccination efforts.”

‘What happened to the PLAN?’ Biden roasted after claiming ‘nothing we can do to change pandemic’s trajectory’

US President Joe Biden was pilloried online after saying he is powerless to change the “trajectory” of the coronavirus pandemic in the coming months, directly at odds with repeat campaign vows to “shut down the virus.”

The president voiced pessimism about the ongoing outbreak on Friday as he prepared to sign a pair of executive orders aiming at pandemic-related relief, saying the death toll could soon top 600,000 – adding 100,000 fatalities to a projection he gave just one day prior.

Biden is an enfeebled sack of shit. The media that enabled him is full of shit. The corrupt political class aka “The Swamp” the backed him is full of shit. The Corporate class that supported him is full of shit. Anyone who voted for him is full of shit. But Orangeman Bad.

Camera operator covering lockdown protest kicked out of Yonge-Dundas Square by police officer for being ‘non-essential’

A CityNews camera operator was kicked out of Yonge-Dundas Square on Saturday by a police officer and told they were “not essential” while gathering footage of the police presence in the square.

Over the past several months, anti-lockdown protests have been held in the square on Saturdays. Last week, there was a heavy police presence due to the stay-at-home order which resulted in the arrest of the organizer and two others.

One of our CityNews’ camera operators was gathering footage of the police presence today in anticipation of gatherings that exceed the province’s five-person limit when he was told he had to leave the square.

Oh the media scorned!

Video of the protest, a couple of arrests made so far.

Ontario reports 2,359 new Covid cases, plus lamentable quotes and WHO gets Honest?

Some COVID-19 quotes from political, medical leaders have not aged well

It’s been one year since COVID-19 showed up in Canada.

In that time we’ve learned quite a bit about the virus that has come to dominate all of our lives. We’ve also learned that our political and medical leaders aren’t perfect and have made mistakes in what they have advised the public when it comes to the virus.

WHO Changes CCP Virus Test Criteria in Attempt to Reduce False Positives

The World Health Organization (WHO) has cautioned experts not to rely solely on the results of a PCR test to detect the CCP virus.

In updated guidance published on Jan. 20, the WHO said that lab experts and health care practitioners should also consider the patient’s history and epidemiological risk factors alongside the PCR test in diagnosing the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus.

The new guidance could result in significantly fewer daily cases.

What really happened? Word got out, WHO couldn’t sustain the lie.

It’s a secret: California keeps key virus data from public

California Gov. Gavin Newsom has from the start said his coronavirus policy decisions would be driven by data shared with the public to provide maximum transparency.

But with the state starting to emerge from its worst surge, his administration won’t disclose key information that will help determine when his latest stay-at-home order is lifted.

State health officials said they rely on a very complex set of measurements that would confuse and potentially mislead the public if they were made public.

A Durham doctor and her husband, a Toronto paramedic, have been charged with failing to disclose information to local public health officials about contact they had with a U.K. visitor in light of the spread of a new variant of the COVID-19 virus present in Britain.

The couple, Dr. Martina Weir and Brian Weir, are alleged each to have failed to provide accurate information about “all persons that the defendant may have had contact with during their period of communicability,” as well as “providing false information in relation to contact with anyone who travelled from the United Kingdom,” according to court documents.

Diane Francis: Was the botched vaccine roll-out a result of Trudeau placing too much faith in China?

The Canadian government’s failures on the vaccine file may end up being the biggest Liberal scandal yet, according to information that’s come my way.

As I wrote earlier this week, any delay in getting as many people vaccinated as quickly as possible will cost lives. So far, just over one per cent of the country has received at least one dose of the vaccine, which puts us behind many other developed countries.

Suddenly Optimistic Fauci Sees Pandemic “Plateauing,” Feels “Liberated” Under Biden Admin

As if the press hasn’t already fawned over Biden enough…but we digress. In other news, Biden insisted that wearing masks until April may help save 50K lives, another number apparently pulled out of a hat.

Finally, Dr. Fauci said Thursday that it looks like new cases in the USA might actually be plateauing, despite the holiday surge we were promised by him a few months ago. But where is this more optimistic frame of mind based on? Well, the diminutive doctor admitted that he feels “liberated” by Biden.

Almost 80% of COVID-19 cases in Toronto were among racialized groups in November

Nearly 80 per cent of COVID-19 cases in Toronto identified with a racialized group in November, according to the city.

On Thursday, Toronto’s Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Eileen de Villa discussed new data on ethno-racialized groups affected by the virus during a city media briefing.

The data shows that racialized groups continue to make up a disproportionate share of COVID-19 cases, as they have throughout the pandemic.
