Trump Halts Funding to Build More Electric Vehicle Chargers Nationwide

The Trump administration has frozen funding for a $5 billion program to build a nationwide network of electric vehicle charging stations.

The Federal Highway Administration sent a letter Thursday to state transportation departments, telling them “no new funding obligations may occur” under the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure program.

The agency said it was suspending approved state implementation plans, which allow states to access NEVI funds automatically allocated through a congressionally created formula. FHA is also pausing approval of new plans; states submit plans annually, describing where and how they plan to build the chargers.

But it seemed like a great plan!

This article is from March 2024 – Biden’s $7.5 billion investment in EV charging has only produced 7 stations in two years

Doug Ford warns Pierre Poilievre that Ontario’s auto industry must be protected

LONDON, Ont.—Doug Ford is taking a veiled shot at federal Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre, saying whoever is the next prime minister must continue Canada’s supports for the auto industry — particularly in electric vehicles.

On the second day of Ontario’s Feb. 27 election campaign, the Progressive Conservative leader, who is seeking a third term in office, said Ontario would maintain its share of funding for EV battery production subsidies to automakers even if U.S. President Donald Trump tears up the Inflation Reduction Act.

That silent scream is Ford realizing the massive amounts of tax dollars poured into the EV industry will never be a viable investment.

Lion Electric EV School Buses Paralyzed With “Error Codes” In Maine Winter

Lion electric bus

It’s hardly surprising that the top producer of all-electric school buses, now bankrupted, faces multiple school districts where its “green” buses have broken down.

The Yarmouth Schools district in Portland, Maine, told local media outlet CBS 13 News that its two Lion Electric buses are severely “underperforming” 1.5 years into service.

“We are trying to work with Lion to have those buses replaced, or to receive compensation for those buses, but really not making much progress at this point and time,” Superintendent Dr. Andrew Dolloff told the media outlet, adding the move to switch out the busses could be a costly one.

Lion Electric is a Quebec based manufacturer and has just filed this month for creditor protection.

And now this …

Detroit hopes Trump’s tariffs will jump-start its car factories

On a freezing afternoon in Detroit, the doors of a giant car plant swung open and workers in hoods and hats began to step out into the falling snow. They were tired and cold after a shift that began at dawn. Many now faced a long drive home.

But at least some took a moment to consider the attention being lavished on them by their new president. On the campaign trail, Donald Trump singled them out as heroes of the US workforce. “These truly great Americans do not get the credit they deserve,” he declared in a speech in Michigan. “I’m pinpointing you for greatness,” he said in another.

Canada’s $52B EV gamble didn’t pay off, observers say

OTTAWA — With tides turning south of the border and electric vehicle sales not meeting expectations, Canada’s big bet on EV manufacturing may have been all for naught.

Since 2020, the federal government entered into deals with 13 manufacturers that, according to a June report by the Parliamentary Budget Officer (PBO), now represent $52.5 billion in various government investments and subsidies across the EV supply chain.

Randall Denley: Ontario’s big EV gamble just lost everything to Trump

U.S. President Donald Trump hasn’t imposed any tariffs on Canada yet, but he’s already dealt a potentially devastating blow to Ontario Premier Doug Ford’s signature industrial policy.

Ford has heavily touted his plan to make the province a major player in the electric-vehicle industry, especially in the production of batteries. Ontario has promised billions of dollars in government support to make it happen. With the stroke of a pen this week, Trump undermined that plan, perhaps fatally.

So…Electric School Buses

One of the many, many painful hangovers from the Biden administration that blue states are going to have to work through – without the aid of ibuprofen and/or copious amounts of alcohol – is going to be what to do now when the Green grifting dollars they gobbled up so greedily vanish.

This can’t be good news for Trudeau’s battery plant investment …

Jeep Maker Stellantis Brings Back American Classics After CEO Exit

Jeep is reviving its Cherokee-sized SUV. Dodge is bringing back the gas-engine version of its Charger muscle car. And Ram is hitting pause on its all-electric pickup truck.

In the weeks since the departure of former CEO Carlos Tavares, executives at global automaker Stellantis have been moving swiftly to turn around the U.S. operations, employing a series of changes to jump-start sales again.

Former Liberal MP urges govt. to follow Trump and torch EV mandates

The head of one of Canada’s largest energy advocacy groups is urging the federal government to follow US president Donald Trump’s lead and scrap EV mandates in this country.

Minutes after Trump announced the end of EV mandates south of the border, former Liberal MP and current president of Canadians for Affordable Energy (CAE), Dan McTeague, urged Liberal leadership candidates, including Mark Carney, to take decisive action by repealing the federal government’s mandate for all new vehicles sold in Canada to be electric by 2035.

Canadian government urged to scrap 2035 gas engine ban as Trump scraps US plan

OTTAWA — More calls are coming for the Trudeau Liberals to scrap their imperiled policy to mandate 100% EV car sales by 2035.

On Monday, Canadians for Affordable Energy joined the call made last week by Canada’s auto industry, noting the government’s decision earlier this month to cancel the Incentives for Zero-Emission Vehicles (iZEV) program, which offered federal subsides to those who purchased an all-electric vehicle.

Trump Dumps EV Mandate

This can’t be good for Trudeau’s EV Battery scam.

America is free from the electric car nightmare. In Europe, it’s just beginning

With one flourish of a presidential pen, they will be free. Amid the blizzard of executive orders that President Trump has said he will sign in the next few hours, one of the most significant, for the economy at least, will be his decision to end the rules forcing American auto manufacturers to focus their energies on electric vehicles.

President Trump is determined to go back to something that until recently would have been considered completely normal: a free market in cars. Under President Biden, a tax credit – in effect a subsidy – of up to $7,500 was awarded for every EV sold. And environmental rules were blamed for effectively forcing auto makers to make a larger proportion of their new vehicles electric.

And Suddenly, Gavin Newsom’s Electric Car Mandate Looks Pretty Dumb to LA Fire Victims

He’ll save the inedible bait fish, the weed that no one’s ever heard of, elevate meritless executives, and kill the gas car. Those are the highest environmental aspirations of Gavin Newsom, the alleged visionary governor of California, whose distorted priorities have combined to create the conditions for LA Inferno 2025. As the smoke begins to clear, the cruel environy is dawning.

Auto industry calls for end to ‘complete fantasy’ zero-emission vehicle mandates

OTTAWA — With coffers running dry on federal government incentives to purchase zero emission vehicles, Canada’s auto industry says it’s time to do away with plans to phase out internal combustion engines by 2035.

Monday’s closure of the Incentives for Zero-Emission Vehicles (iZEV) program comes just 12 months before the start of a multi-year EV sales mandate where 20% of all new Canadian car sales must be zero-emission, reaching 100% by 2035.

Canada pauses electric vehicle rebates worth up to $5,000 for buyers

Canada’s federal government says it will pause its zero-emission vehicle incentive program (iZEV), dubbing the up to $5,000 rebate on eligible cars and trucks a “huge success” in the transition to net-zero emissions.

The program offers a $5,000 rebate for battery-electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) with an electric range over 49 kilometres. PHEVs with a lower range qualify for a $2,500 rebate. Eligible passenger cars must have a base price less than $55,000, rising to $65,000 for SUVs, minivans and pickups.

The Global EV Calamity

The years just keep getting warmer. I mean this facetiously. At first, the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration told us 2016 was 0.94 degree warmer than the 20th-century average. Then the agency raised its estimate by several steps to 1 degree in 2020 before dropping it back to 0.99 perhaps under Trump influence. With Democrats back in charge under President Biden, 2016 started getting warmer again, reaching 1.03 degrees in 2023. The latest NOAA chart shows it 1.04 degrees warmer than the baseline.
