Media Spin on Gun Control Doesn’t Match Voters’ Opinions

Red flag laws are the top priority of Democrats and gun control advocates. Polls show that Americans overwhelmingly support these measures—by margins ranging between 2-1 and 3-1. Congress recently passed legislation providing funding for states that adopted these laws.

But the polling doesn’t really gauge whether Americans understand how these laws operate. The surveys generally just ask people if they support laws that “allow guns to be temporarily confiscated by a judge from people considered by a judge to be a danger to themselves or others.”

Another Challenge to New York’s Gun Law: Sheriffs Who Won’t Enforce It

LYONS, N.Y. — Robert Milby, Wayne County’s new sheriff, has been in law enforcement most of his adult life, earning praise and promotions for conscientious service. But recently, Sheriff Milby has attracted attention for a different approach to the law: ignoring it.

Sheriff Milby is among at least a half-dozen sheriffs in upstate New York who have said they have no intention of aggressively enforcing gun regulations that state lawmakers passed last summer, forbidding concealed weapons in so-called sensitive areas — a long list of public spaces including, but not limited to, government buildings and religious centers, health facilities and homeless shelters, schools and subways, stadiums and state parks, and, of course, Times Square.

One Million+ Guns Sold Every Month for 38 Consecutive Months

The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) points to FBI background check figures to show that over one million guns have been sold in America every month for the past 38 months.

FBI figures show there were 2,470,462 National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) checks performed in the month of September. Mark Olivia, the NSSF’s managing director of public affairs, indicates that 1.2 million of the NICS checks were specifically for gun sales.

Proposed Handgun Freeze Backed by Limited Data, Public Safety Committee Hears

The Liberal government’s plan to tighten firearms legislation by putting a freeze on handguns is backed by limited data on the potential impact this measure will have on reducing crime, the Commons public safety committee heard on Oct. 4.

“I can’t tell you exactly what impact it will have,” Assistant Deputy Minister of Public Safety Talal Dakalbab told the committee.

Dakalbab was responding to a question from Conservative MP Dane Lloyd.

‘Punk kid’ claims he made $21,000 when he duped officials with 3D-guns in city’s buy back

When in doubt, throw money at the problem and rely on the best intentions of man.

Such is the philosophy in crime-ridden cities that radiate their pestilence in all directions; from Utica, New York to Oakland, California, and whose leaders praise the successes of so-called gun buyback programs; a misnomer considering the government didn’t first sell the firearm.

Mendicino says Alberta’s resistance to federal gun buyback plan is ‘reckless’ and ‘a political stunt’

Federal Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino is calling Alberta Justice Minister and Solicitor General Tyler Shandro’s plan to direct RCMP in the province not to enforce confiscations of prohibited firearms “reckless,” and is amounting it to “a political stunt” that won’t hold up.

On Sept. 26, Shandro made headlines when he announced he had advised the head of the RCMP in Alberta not to take officers off the streets for this purpose, citing a dispute clause in the Provincial Police Service Agreement— saying the “confiscation program” was not a priority.

Trudeau’s fight with Alberta is all because he doesn’t know how to collect guns he banned

The latest political fight between the federal government and Alberta shows just how poorly thought out the gun ban and “buyback” program really is. The Trudeau Liberals are now asking provinces and cities to offer up police resources to take guns from licenced gun owners and they are getting some pushback.

Saskatchewan Joins Alberta in Opposing Ottawa’s Gun Buyback Program

The Saskatchewan government has told the RCMP that it will not financially aid Ottawa in its efforts within the province to implement a federal firearms buyback program.

Christine Tell, the province’s minister of corrections, policing, and public safety, wrote a letter to RCMP Assistant Commissioner Rhonda Blackmore saying that no government money committed to the RCMP would be used to seize and buy back the firearms of Saskatchewan residents, according to the province’s Chief Firearms Officer Robert Freberg.

Gun Control in Tough Spot in Increasingly Well-Armed America

The dream of a gun-free America has never been more ephemeral. While calls for gun control still abound, their effectiveness is thrown into question by the reality of gun ownership. And the disconnect seems to be growing.

Polls suggest the majority of Americans don’t own a gun and support stricter gun laws. Gun ownership has stagnated for decades, according to Gallup.

In reality, however, gun sales have been breaking records in recent years, with a significant portion going to new gun owners, according to industry estimates.

California woman shoots intruder day after getting her gun

Buying a gun in California isn’t a simple or fast process thanks to the numerous gun control measures that anti-gun politicians have put in place over the past few decades, but thankfully the state’s draconian restrictions on the right to keep and bear arms didn’t interfere with one woman’s ability to use a firearm to defend herself and her husband from a stranger who tried to come inside their home.

Alberta plans to resist federal efforts to seize prohibited weapons: Justice minister

The Alberta government is taking steps to oppose federal firearms prohibition legislation and the potential seizure of thousands of assault-style weapons.

Since May 2020, Ottawa has prohibited more than 1,500 different models of assault-style firearms from being used or sold in Canada.

Good. Ottawa has no moral authority to govern.
