Maj Toure on how the Second Amendment was essential to the fight for black liberation.

The US’s Second Amendment is often dismissed as reactionary – as white supremacist, even. We’re told that the only people interested in preserving the right to bear arms are racist, rural-dwelling white men.

For Maj Toure, founder of Black Guns Matter, this gets things completely the wrong way around. Gun control, he argues, was historically rooted in racism and the Second Amendment was essential to the fight for black liberation.

There’s far more at stake than gun-control laws.

For those of us of a certain age, we know that every time some psychopath shoots up a school and murders students, the Democrats will respond with their clichéd demagogic script. Exploiting the natural horror and pathos of such events, the Donks will trot out all the usual gun-policy suspects, the majority of which would not have prevented most of the attacks.

WASHINGTON — The bipartisan gun safety deal announced Sunday is far from what Democrats would have preferred in the aftermath of the racist gun massacre in Buffalo and the mass shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, but it is considerably more than they hoped for initially.

The proposal, which still has a long way to go before becoming law, focuses less on the “gun” part of gun control and more on other factors, such as a buyer’s mental health or violent tendencies, in a concession to Republican hesitation and the hard political reality that tough limits on sales, let alone outright bans on firearms, are far out of reach.

Leftist activist and filmmaker Michael Moore used his Friday podcast “Rumble Michael Moore” to call for a full repeal of the Second Amendment in the wake of the Uvalde, TX school shooting.

Moore said, “I know that there are Democratic Party leaders that do not want me saying this we going to lose the election.”

A new USA Today/Ipsos poll administered to 1,117 respondents this past weekend reported that half of Republicans “support stricter gun laws.”

Those numbers seem to indicate that a large chunk of Republicans strongly support Democrats’ anti-gun agenda and could be used as political leverage to convince wavering Republicans in Congress to rethink their historical backing of Second Amendment rights. And that’s exactly what USA Today not-so-subtly tried to do in its recent article “Half of Republicans support stricter gun laws, a double-digit jump in a year.”

“The increase in GOP support — from 35% last year to 50% — could boost the prospects for Congress to tighten federal gun laws, an effort that has failed for decades,” the article argued.

In the wake of every mass shooting, the liberal response is always the same: the proposal of new laws. But even as liberals push new laws, they support prosecutors, such as the now-recalled Chesa Boudin in San Francisco, who refuse to enforce existing laws. Liberals also support an undisciplined culture that renders the populace increasingly incapable of following the law.

In 2018, Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) casually asserted the United States military could easily crush those who refuse to surrender their rifles to the state.

Not long after, President Joe Biden said nearly the same thing when he scoffed at the idea of an armed citizenry serving as a check on the might of the federal government.

This sentiment that the U.S. military could easily overwhelm a non-compliant public, particularly gun owners, lives on as a point of serious discussion in certain political circles.

If a Martian landed on Earth and wanted to quickly determine how dangerous an area was, all he would need is a quick review of local gun laws: the stricter the gun laws, the more gun violence there will be. It is almost as absolute as the law of gravity.

How, then, can it be “common sense” to adopt the policies that have made Chicago; Washington, D.C.; and Detroit human target galleries? Democrats argue you have blood on your hands unless you join them in making all of America into the violence-free paradise that is Chicago. It is absurd nonsense.
