Avoiding or postponing a trip to the ER can result in grave repercussions, CIHI said in an email to CTV News this week, pointing to data collected during the first half of 2020 and released in November. Many patients who finally did go to the ER for care may have been sicker and needed greater interventions, the institute noted.

Ontario Doctors Being Asked To Prepare For ICU Triage Scenario

Earlier this week, the co-chair of the province’s COVID-19 health science table said if things don’t change, doctors will be forced to make some tough choices.

Now, it looks like they’re already preparing for that.

Michael Garron Hospital’s Dr. Michael Warner told CBC News that doctors are being asked to prepare to have to make choices between who gets care, and who doesn’t.

One third of Ontario’s long-term care homes experiencing COVID-19 outbreaks

According to provincial data, 207 of the 626 long-term care homes in Ontario are currently experiencing outbreaks of the virus, including 19 new ones reported Sunday.

The CEO of the Ontario Long-Term Care Association, which represents nearly 70 per cent of homes in the province, says the rising number of outbreaks is pushing the system to its limits.

We Don’t Know if COVID Vaccines Are Safe

Last week, the Canadian government refused to tell the public whether it had granted legal immunity to COVID-19 vaccine manufacturers. Health Canada said it couldn’t release “details of its contracts due to confidentiality clauses.”

On Monday, this changed. A cabinet minister has now acknowledged that pharmaceutical companies will be protected from lawsuits in the event that Canadians are harmed.
