After the Second World War, Germany passed strict laws against any attempt to overthrow the country’s constitutional order. At the same time, it adopted a zero-tolerance approach to antisemitism.
Last week, however, the German state tolerated a rally that proclaimed both extreme antisemitism and the desire to topple German democracy.

It was only a matter of time before America’s student protests spread to the UK. In Oxford, tents have been pitched on grass that, in ordinary times, no student is allowed to walk on. The ground outside King’s College in Cambridge looks like Glastonbury, complete with an “emergency toilet” tent. Similar camps can be found at UCL, Manchester University and more. There have been no clashes with police, but that may yet come. In Leeds, for example, pro-Palestinian students tried to storm a university building, leading to bloody clashes with security guards.

Caliphate protests in Hamburg: What is Muslim Interactive?
It’s estimated that some 1,000 people gathered at Hamburg’s popular street Steindamm late April, following a call to protests by an organization called Muslim Interactive (MI). Some demonstrators chanted “God is great,” and held up signs that read “caliphate is the solution,” and “Germany = a dictatorship of values.”
Public outcry was quick to follow, with many calling for the organization to be banned. A second demonstration is this weekend.
Necla Kelek is a sociologist and head of the Secular Islam Initiative, which is based in Hamburg. She said that she, like many others, had been surprised by the sudden demonstration that MI organized. Her organization joined others in putting together a counter-protest.

Toronto area school board “will be making changes” after its decision to use a Menorah instead of the Star of David as a symbol for Judaism in school’s multifaith calendar sparked backlash.
According to a RAIR report by Amy Mek out this past Saturday, Muslim migrants from the Indian state of Bihar were caught “red-handed” burning down large swathes of forestland in the state of Uttarakhand, all as an act of jihad. Mek also iterated that the damage done to the environment has been a “severe blow” to the region, “consuming thousands of trees” and causing the “destruction of over a thousands hectares of forest land” which is roughly equivalent to 2,800 acres.
OTTAWA – City officials say they’ve cancelled plans to host a flag-raising ceremony at Ottawa City Hall marking the establishment of Israel because of security concerns.
The Israeli flag will be raised next Tuesday to mark Yom Ha’atzmaut, but a ceremony involving the mayor, diplomats and members of the Jewish community will not go ahead.
The city said it has intelligence that suggests the event would pose “a substantial risk to public safety.” It did not offer details about the nature of that concern.

Six Canadian children have been repatriated from Syria according to a statement from Global Affairs Canada.
“The Government of Canada has taken extraordinary measures to repatriate six Canadian children from northeastern Syria,” the statement said.
“The focus is now on protecting the children’s privacy and ensuring they receive the support and care needed to begin a new life here in Canada.”

Speaker Ted Arnott says the kaffiyeh can be worn in the Ontario legislative building — but not in the chamber itself.
Shortly after his remarks during Monday’s question period — which he said were to clarify his previous ruling that banned the black-and-white scarves at Queen’s Park — three MPPs were told to leave the chamber for donning kaffiyehs, which they did.
New Democrats Kristyn Wong-Tam (Toronto Centre), Joel Harden (Ottawa Centre) and former NDP now Independent MPP Sarah Jama told reporters after that they disagree with the ban.
“Activists are receiving backlash, being labelled as antisemitic, and facing various consequences for shouting chants such as, ‘From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,’ as well as calling for ‘intifada.’
OTTAWA – The Israel-Hamas war has led to a spike in “violent rhetoric” from “extremist actors” that could prompt some in Canada to turn to violence, the Canadian Security Intelligence Service warns.
The statement comes as newly released documents illustrate discussions last fall between the spy agency, the federal Public Safety Department and Muslim and Jewish leaders about responding to a reported uptick in hate crimes spurred by the conflict.
“While the long-term impacts of the current crisis cannot be easily predicted, it is clear that this conflict has raised tensions within our society,” wrote spokesman Eric Balsam.
