‘He’s a good boy’: Mother of alleged Bondi shooter says she believes he is innocent

Verena Akram, the mother of 24-year-old suspected Bondi gunman Naveed Akram, said she didn’t believe her son could be involved in the attack on Sydney’s Jewish community on Sunday, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.

“He doesn’t have a firearm. He doesn’t even go out. He doesn’t mix around with friends. He doesn’t drink, he doesn’t smoke, he doesn’t go to bad places … he goes to work, he comes home, he goes to exercise and that’s it,” she claimed.

MANY Britons will know of Bondi Beach. Some will know it directly, as it is a haven for visiting Brits and those who now make Australia home. Especially on Christmas Day, where there is generally much merriment. If Rudi Giuliani was America’s mayor, then Bondi is Australia’s beach.

How terror triumphed at the Christmas market

Mulled wine and Heckler & Koch assault rifles don’t belong together, except in Christmas films like Die Hard. Festive visitors to Christmas markets in Berlin, London or Strasbourg this year will notice the pairing all the same. Concrete blocks surround fairy lights, and the scent of cloves and cinnamon wafts over armed police carrying submachine guns.

Since an Islamist drove a lorry into the Breitscheidplatz market in Berlin in December 2016, killing twelve and injuring dozens, we deck the halls with blast protection. There are still tacky wooden chalets selling sausages, but they are now often surrounded by steel posts, truck-proof planters, and one-way systems designed to stop SUVs achieving murderous velocities before hitting crash barriers.

When Canadian Soil Becomes a Megaphone: Why Terrorist Glorification is a Foreign Policy Issue

When MP Roman Baber rose in the House of Commons on 17 November to table Bill C-257, he was not just tinkering with legal technicalities. His proposal would create a new Criminal Code offence of “wilfully promoting a terrorist activity or a terrorist group,” punishable by up to five years in prison and classified as a terrorism offence. In plain language, Parliament is being asked whether glorifying terrorism from Canadian soil should itself be treated as a terrorism crime.

Supporters, including organizations such as the Canadian Jewish Law Association and B’nai Brith Canada, say the bill fills a dangerous gap exposed by rallies and online content that appear to praise Hamas and other listed entities. Critics worry about overreach and the chilling of legitimate protest.

Curtailing speech is always a double edged sword and our history with such measures typically results in attacks on Canadian heritage and values.

Kleytman fled Ukraine as a child with his mother to escape the unspeakable terror of the Holocaust. They survived sub-zero temperatures and near starvation in Siberia, counting themselves lucky to be alive. Yesterday, at the age of 87, he was killed by a jihadist’s bullet on a warm summer evening at Bondi Beach in front of his grandchildren.

Jews in Canada were already living in a climate of fear, now Hanukkah celebrations will be overshadowed by terror.

I woke up Sunday morning to a photograph I never expected to see: my friend, human-rights lawyer and regular National Post contributor Arsen Ostrovsky, bloodied among the walking wounded at Bondi Beach.

Arsen is now in hospital — and extraordinarily lucky to be alive. A bullet grazed the top of his head. Doctors have told him that had it been a few millimetres lower, he would almost certainly have been killed.

This year, Toronto Palestinian Families (TPF), which describes itself as “a grassroots group led by Palestinian families advocating for safe and inclusive spaces free from anti-Palestinian racism and other forms of inequity,” was given $99,500 by the Canadian Heritage department for a proposal titled, “Combating Anti-Semitism and Anti-Palestinian Racism for All.”

Bondi Beach terror survivor describes how cops ‘froze’ during 20-minute shooting rampage by Muslim terrorists

One of the survivors of the terror attack at a Bondi Beach Hanukkah celebration said four police officers just “froze” during the 20-minute rampage on Sunday that killed 11.

Eyewitness Shmulik Scuri said he was with his family when the two suspects began firing at the crowd of worshippers from a nearby bridge.

“For 20 minutes. They shoot, shoot. Change magazines. And just shoot,” the witness told reporters
