The Great Replacement and the Psychology of Denial

For those in denial, an immigrant is just a generic human unit who brings no cultural baggage with him.

It’s commonplace for many conservatives, and others concerned about security, to express alarm about uncontrolled immigration. And while there is an invigorating perennial debate between classical liberals / libertarians and social conservatives about the merits and drawbacks to having open borders, for many, to express too strong a defense of immigration controls—or, worse, ‘repatriation’—is tantamount to racist xenophobia.

We’re here to say that this dismissive attitude—and the general reluctance among policymakers to discuss the socio-economic impacts of mass migration—does a disservice to the many countries that have opened their arms to newcomers. But given recent episodes of crime, riots, and sexual violence, and given the sheer scale of the waves of immigrants now seeking refuge in Europe, we think Europe’s future lies in part with ensuring its cultural survival, which necessarily implies ending immigration.

Immigration drives massive Canadian population increase: StatCan

OTTAWA – Statistics Canada says immigration is almost solely responsible for the largest annual population boom Canada has seen since 1957.

The newly released data shows Canada’s population grew by more than a million people between from July 2022 to July 2023, which represents an increase of about three per cent.

Canada also saw a massive 46 per cent increase in the number of temporary residents in Canada over the same period.

Tensions Near Boiling Point as Criminal Activity Grows in Chicago Migrant Shelters

Over the weekend, a fight broke out near the 1,163-resident migrant shelter at the former Standard Club, 320 S. Plymouth Court. It was one of several brawls that have erupted at shelters across the city.

Most of the shelters are in residential neighborhoods dominated by small businesses. And the friction between business owners who complain the loitering migrants are destroying their businesses, residents who feel unsafe, and the migrants stuffed into shelters could blow wide open at any time.

Here’s what really happened when Canada shut down Roxham Road

New rules brought in this year to stem the tide of irregular migrants at spots such as Quebec’s Roxham Road have changed who is coming to Canada to seek asylum and how they are getting here, a Star analysis reveals.

The shift in patterns, critics contend, means that some of the most vulnerable refugees are being excluded from Canada’s asylum protection.

The Pope is wrong to criticise Europe over the migrant crisis

Pope Francis spent the weekend in Marseille where he admonished Europe for their attitude towards migrants. Specifically, the Pontiff took to task those who used words such as ‘invasion’ and ‘emergency’ when discussing the millions of migrants who have arrived in Europe in the last decade. ‘Those who risk their lives at sea do not invade, they look for welcome,’ he pronounced. Those who said otherwise were ‘fuelling alarmist propaganda’ and acting contrary to the teaching of the Catholic church.

Is America about to send special forces into Mexico?

Growing calls for US military to tackle migrant crisis and cartels amid chaos at border

America is facing record-breaking numbers of migrants from Latin America, Africa and beyond crossing the US/Mexico border by foot and by train creating an unenviable political task for Joe Biden as he heads into election season as all sides of the political spectrum call for action.

Donald Trump has called it in an ‘invasion’ and promised military action if he is reelected and other Republican frontrunners, including Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, have promised to send in troops to deal with Mexico’s drug cartels while Biden’s administration continues to scramble for solutions.

In the small border city of Eagle Pass, Texas, the city’s Democratic mayor has declared a state of emergency where last week it’s thought that 100,000 people waded through the Rio Grande, the river that flows between Mexico and the US, and into the town.

Immigration and the Citizen ‘Ship’ Are Connected: Are We a Ship of State or a Ship of Fools?

We all come from somewhere. In fact, we are all either settlers or ancestors of settlers here. This goes from Canada’s earliest inhabitants whose ancestors came across the Bering Land Bridge 20,000 years previously to today’s new Canadians. But the Canadian Ship of State is not on course. Canada must not have such open borders to immigration – especially when it cannot get its own act together.

We Do Not Have a Broken Immigration System. We Have a Broken Enforcement System.

I am so sick of hearing that the United States has a “broken” immigration system. There is nothing wrong with America’s immigration system. It’s a system of laws passed by the people’s duly elected representatives that enables limited and orderly immigration. There are further limited exceptions for refugees fleeing legitimate persecution. It’s an honorable, decent, growth-enabling system.

In Trudeau’s world anyone who questions his immigration policy is a racist

GOLDSTEIN: It’s Trudeau’s world and the Liberals are trapped in it

Liberal cabinet ministers and MPs can’t meaningfully address the concerns of Canadians who think we’re admitting too many immigrants, because in Trudeau’s world anyone who questions his immigration policy is a racist

The problem for the Liberals these days is that they’re trapped in Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s world and it’s imploding around them.

An illustration of this is an interview Immigration Minister Marc Miller did last week with The Hill Times in which he called Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre a “charlatan”, “snake-oil salesman”, “classless jackass” and “serial bullsh–.”

Joe Biden is about to face an immigration reckoning

Granting legal status to Venezuelans won’t fix the problem

Scenes of chaos on the southern border of the United States have been a recurrent spectacle of the Biden administration. But in recent weeks, the challenge has become a lot worse: big cities and small towns across the country are experiencing a significant influx of migrants.

Stop seeing immigration as a get-rich-quick scheme for Canada’s economy

Immigration is neither as good for Canada as recent federal government pronouncements would suggest nor as bad as some critics might claim. The best economic evidence suggests that, in the long run, immigration has limited impact on the average Canadian’s wages or job prospects. Immigration boosts the economy, but it increases our population, too, leaving the average Canadian’s living standards more or less unchanged.

Yet these long-run averages mask the fact that specific policies create winners and losers. A government that ignores the fact that immigration can have costs risks making two mistakes. First, it might uncritically accept the arguments made by those who stand to benefit from immigration. Second, if it does not take the downside risks of specific immigration policies seriously, it might not act to mitigate them.

RCMP’s most famous outpost, at Roxham Road, will be demolished

It is the RCMP’s most famous outpost, where Canadians and the world have grown used to seeing migrants crossing into the country on foot for protection.

For years, the images of desperate asylum seekers with luggage — and children — in tow walking into Canada and being greeted by uniformed officers have been plastered on front pages of newspapers here and abroad.
