Wilcox, a Republican state lawmaker charged with securing Utah’s schools, was eager to see if a polyester-based film, thinner than a credit card and applied to glass windows and doors, might answer a desperate nationwide query: How can schools stop attackers from shooting their way in?

• At least two people are dead after a shooting at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wisconsin, police said. The suspect is also dead and multiple people are injured, according the police chief.
• Law enforcement said the shooter is believed to be a juvenile and authorities are still investigating the scene. There are currently no other threats to schools in the community, the police chief said.

Authorities in Butte County have identified the gunman who staged an attack Wednesday on a Christian elementary school that left two children wounded and ended with the attacker dead.
On Thursday afternoon, Sheriff Kory Honea identified the shooter as Glenn Litton, 56. He described Litton as a homeless, mentally ill man with a long criminal record who targeted the school due to its affiliation with the Seventh-day Adventist Church. He died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the scene of the attack.
Authorities found a statement by Litton saying that “child executions” were imposed at the school in response to “America’s involvements in genocide and oppression of Palestinians” and attacks in Yemen.
ATLANTA (AP) — A shooting early Sunday during homecoming weekend at Tuskegee University in Alabama left one person dead and injured 16 others, a dozen of them by gunfire, authorities said. One arrest was announced hours later.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said Jaquez Myrick, 25, of Montgomery, was taken into custody while leaving the scene of the campus shooting and had been found with a handgun with a machine gun conversion device. The agency said in a statement that Myrick faces a federal charge of possession of a machine gun. It did not accuse him of using the gun in the shooting or provide additional details.

The FBI and Crimestoppers have raised the reward to $100,000 for information leading to the capture of mysterious shooters behind what law enforcement believes was a targeted attack that left four people dead and 17 others injured in downtown Birmingham this past weekend.
Shortly after 11 p.m. on Saturday night, multiple people got out of a car in Birmingham’s trendy Five Points South area and opened fire with guns that appeared to have been converted to automatic weapons. Three of the victims died at the scene, and a fourth died at a hospital, while four other people had life-threatening injuries.

As a manhunt stretched into a third day Monday for a suspect in a shooting on a Kentucky interstate that wounded five people and struck 12 vehicles, authorities vowed to keep up a relentless search as the stress level remained high for a rural area where some schools canceled classes.
Authorities have been searching a rugged, hilly area of southeastern Kentucky since Saturday evening, when a shooter began firing at drivers on Interstate 75 near London, a small city of about 8,000 people located about 75 miles south of Lexington.
With suspect Joseph A. Couch, 32, still at large, numerous area school districts canceled classes for Monday. State police Master Trooper Scottie Pennington, a spokesman for the London state police post, urged area residents to lock doors, keep porch lights on and monitor security cameras. The 2023 Nashville school shooter responsible for the deaths of half a dozen Christians expressed disdain for Christianity and her parents’ biblical beliefs, according to a copy of her long-hidden manifesto released on Tuesday.
Obtained and published by The Tennessee Star, the 90-page journal documents the mental breakdown of Audrey Hale leading up to her attack on The Covenant School in Nashville, Tennessee, in March 2023. Hale, who identified as a male, killed six people during her rampage, including three small children.
Highland Park shooting suspect Robert Crimo III backed out of a plea deal with prosecutors that could have spared the loved ones of his alleged victims the torture of a drawn-out trial, changing his mind at the last minute during a dramatic court hearing.
Crimo is accused of killing seven people and injuring 48 others during the 2022 July 4th Parade in Highland Park, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago.
The 23-year-old was expected to plead guilty to seven counts of murder and 48 counts of aggravated battery during a court hearing in Lake County.
