Nigeria: Gunmen kidnap more than 100 students from school

Gunmen seized more than 100 students from a boarding school in northwestern Nigeria on Monday. A school official told the Agence France-Presse news agency that the number of students abducted was 140.

“The kidnappers took away 140 students, only 25 students escaped. We still have no idea where the students were taken,” said Emmanuel Paul, a teacher at the Bethel Baptist High School in Kaduna state where the kidnapping happened.

Gunmen scaled a fence to break into the school in the early hours of Monday morning, kidnapping most of the 165 pupils boarding there.

American activists decrying the Christian genocide in Nigeria are asserting that jihadist violence is motivated partly by an effort to enslave women and girls.

“Most of the individuals captured by Boko Haram jihadists are young women and girls taken by force and trafficked as slave concubines,” the Committee to Free Nigerian Slaves (CFNS) said a statement.

Muslim Rights Group Claims They’re The Real Victims After Nigeria Revealed Accountable For Nearly Half of All Murdered Christians World Wide Last Year

Christian Group Names Nigeria Hot Spot for Persecution

ABUJA – A report by the U.S-based Christian persecution monitoring group Open Doors shows the number of Christians killed in 2020 increased by 60%, mostly because of Islamic violence against Nigerian Christians.

The study says more than 2,200 of 4,761 Christians killed around the world in 2020 died in Nigeria because of radical Islamists.

…But Nigerian Muslim groups say the report is promoting a false impression.

“Nigerian Christians are not persecuted,” said Ishaq Akintola, director at Muslim Rights Concern. “What is happening in Nigeria is the persecutor crying out and claiming that he is being persecuted, claiming that he is the victim. And it’s because a Muslim is in power that the crying of persecution is so loud.”

Mostly Peaceful Muslims of Boko Haram slaughter dozens of farm workers in Nigeria

Boko Haram fighters killed at least 43 farm workers and wounded six in rice fields near the north-east Nigerian city of Maiduguri on Saturday, anti-jihadist militia told AFP.

The assailants tied up the agricultural workers and slit their throats in the village of Koshobe, the militia said.

“We have recovered 43 dead bodies, all of them slaughtered, along with six others with serious injuries,” said militia leader Babakura Kolo, who helped the survivors.

“It is no doubt the handiwork of Boko Haram who operate in the area and frequently attack farmers.”
