Rogers, Bell to pull Russian state-controlled channel RT over invasion of Ukraine … CBC on Bubble?

Rogers and Bell said Sunday they will no longer be carrying Russian state-controlled network RT in their TV channel lineups in the latest action against Russian entities following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Bell confirmed it is no longer carrying RT as of Sunday, while Rogers said it will pull the TV network on Monday. It was not immediately known if the moves are permanent.

Seriously the CBC is no different, in fact it’s worse.

‘Why do we need the world, if Russia won’t be in it?’ Putin’s ‘propagandist-in-chief’ threatens the West with nuclear destruction

Vladimir Putin’s ‘propagandist-in-chief’ has threatened the West with nuclear destruction just hours after the Russian leader put his deterrent forces on ‘alert’.

Speaking on nation-wide TV amid a frenzy of anti-Western rhetoric, TV anchor Dmitry Kiselyov told viewers: ‘Our submarines can shoot more than 500 nuclear warheads.

‘This would guarantee destruction of the USA, and all other NATO countries.

Russian rocket strikes kill dozens in Kharkiv as Kyiv-Moscow talks begin

Russian rocket attacks killed dozens of people in the eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv as ceasefire talks between Kyiv and Moscow got under way, with the Kremlin facing unprecedented international sanctions that have created “a new economic reality” for Russia.

After four days of fighting and a slower Russian advance than many expected, the Ukrainian interior ministry adviser Anton Herashchenko said Kharkiv had been “massively fired on”, leaving “dozens of dead and hundreds of wounded”.

The news came hours after the Ukrainian presidency said it had begun negotiations with a Russian delegation on the border with Belarus, aimed at achieving “an immediate ceasefire and the withdrawal of Russian forces”.

Ukraine invasion: Would Putin press the nuclear button?

Let me begin with an admission. So many times, I’ve thought: “Putin would never do this.” Then he goes and does it.

“He’d never annex Crimea, surely?” He did.

“He’d never start a war in the Donbas.” He did.

“He’d never launch a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.” He has.

I’ve concluded that the phrase “would never do” doesn’t apply to Vladimir Putin.

Ukraine conflict: Russia doubles interest rate after rouble slumps

Russia has more than doubled its interest rate to 20% in a bid to halt a slump in the value of its currency.

The Bank of Russia raised the rate from 9.5% after the rouble sank 30% after new Western sanctions. The currency then eased back to stand 20% down.

The collapse in value erodes the currency’s buying power and could wipe out the savings of ordinary Russians.

Amid pictures at the weekend of queues at cash machines, Russia said it had the resources to ride out sanctions.

Ukraine’s ‘Azov’ fighters seen greasing bullets in pig fat for Chechen Muslim invaders

Shocking new video shared online shows Ukraine’s controversial Azov fighters dipping bullets in pig fat to shoot at Chechen Muslims set to invade their country on behalf of Russia.

The Azov fighters are linked to a neo-Nazi volunteer militia that became part of the Ukrainian National Guard in 2014 after Russia seized Crimea and moved into the Donbas region. In the clip, they smear the bullets with pig fat, which would be considered unclean to the Chechen fighters Vladimir Putin’s henchman and Chechen strongman Ramzan Kadyrov is sending in to help try to conquer Ukraine.

Ukraine: Cuban Missile Crisis, deja vu?

… Putin was reluctant to make his moves while Trump was in office. He respected Trump. He feared Trump.

As he was all-Russian, so Trump was all-American. A terrible clash was inevitable; which Putin preferred to avoid. He considered Trump’s grit. He knew he’d lose.

Then came the election that seated Biden in the White House and for Putin, this was an answer to godless prayer.

That American voters would choose as their leader a man so lacking, was just the stroke of luck he needed.

A letter to the Western Left from Kyiv

The ‘anti-imperialism of idiots’ meant people turned a blind eye to Russia’s actions

Iam writing these lines in Kyiv while it is under artillery attack.

Until the last minute, I had hoped that Russian troops wouldn’t launch a full-scale invasion. Now, I can only thank those who leaked the information to the US intelligence services.

Yesterday, I spent half the day considering whether I ought to join a territorial defence unit. During the night that followed, the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyi signed a full mobilisation order and Russian troops moved in and prepared to encircle Kyiv, which made the decision for me.

Europe’s ‘green’ transition put it at the mercy of Russia

By abandoning fracking, they didn’t give up fossil fuels; they just imported more from the east.

… We all saw this coming. Europe’s supposed “green” energy transition disregarded energy security and common sense, and Ukraine is now paying the price. The world will never tackle climate change if it’s in a constant state of geopolitical energy insecurity, relying on authoritarian regimes like Russia and China to meet its basic needs.

Russian Space Chief Threatens to Crash International Space Station into U.S. or Europe

Russia is certainly getting very good at making threats. Today, President Vladimir Putin threatened nuclear war or something. He put Russia’s nuclear forces on “high alert,” according to media reports.

I cannot for the life of me figure out why Putin invaded. He was winning without it.

Now it seems there is something in the water and Putinitis is spreading.

Peaceful demonstrators in the Russian capital Moscow and St Petersburg chanted ‘No to war’ before police in riot gear grabbed them and dragged them into police vans.

‘I had no idea he was there’: families’ shock at video of captured Russian soldiers

Ukrainian officials have published dozens of videos of what they say are captured Russian soldiers, as the brutal fighting in Ukraine enters its fourth day.

In one of the videos, published early on Sunday morning on the Telegram channel Find Your Own, set up by Ukraine’s interior ministry, a visibly injured soldier identifies himself as Leonid Paktishev, the commander of a sniper unit based in the Rostov region.

The Telegram channel, which first went live on Saturday, has posted numerous videos and photos showing captured Russian troops, which have led to an outcry from their families who say they were shocked to find out about the involvement of their loved ones in the invasion of Ukraine.

We need to talk about energy

When Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine, the UK government immediately thought in high-flown terms of foreign policy. What it didn’t mention is a problem much closer to home. What does all this mean for energy policy, Net Zero and the government’s determination to phase out the production and use of fossil fuels?

Until now, the government has successfully ridden two horses on the subject of energy. It has merrily appeased the green lobby with promises to ditch fossil fuels and end their production domestically. And yet it knows perfectly well that when push comes to shove, it can’t make good on these promises. The replacement energy source just isn’t there. Nuclear might have worked, but successive governments have run it down – nearly half of the UK’s current capacity is due to be retired by 2025. And wind, solar and so on help, but they are expensive, unreliable and take up lots of valuable land.

Ottawa looks for ways to block Russian broadcaster RT

The minister who oversees Canada’s broadcasting system said Ottawa is exploring “all options” amid calls for a Russian state-funded television channel to be taken off the air.

The Kremlin-controlled television network RT, formerly known as Russia Today, is carried by BCE Inc., Rogers Communications Inc., Telus Corp. and Shaw Communications Inc., according to RT’s website.

Canada’s Official Opposition has called the broadcaster a tool of Moscow that spreads “disinformation and propaganda,” while a January report by the U.S. State Department said the channel has been used to try to sway public opinion about Ukraine in Europe, the United States and even as far away as Latin America.

One thing about RT, it’s less biased than CBC.
