CALGARY — Premier Danielle Smith has applauded US President Donald Trump’s recent decision to issue several pipeline permits to facilitate cross-border transport of crude oil and petroleum products between the US and Canada, as well as a permit to construct a new pipeline.

Yesterday, the White House approved the advancement of multiple pipeline projects carrying Alberta oil to the United States.

Expanding pipeline capacity to the U.S. is something I’ve been advocating from this U.S. Administration since their last election. It has paid off!

Ex-Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax kills wife, shoots himself in murder-suicide at home amid ‘messy divorce,’ cops say

Embattled former Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax killed his wife and then shot himself inside their home early Thursday in the throes of a “messy divorce,” cops said.

The 47-year-old Democrat repeatedly shot his dentist wife, Cerina Fairfax, in the basement of their Annandale home just after midnight before turning the gun on himself, according to police.

The couple’s two teenage children were inside the home at the time of the murder-suicide. Their son was the one who called 911 to report the shootings, cops said.

Starmer and Macron to cut Trump out of Hormuz patrols

Sir Keir Starmer and Emmanuel Macron are cutting Donald Trump out of plans to patrol the Strait of Hormuz once the war against Iran is over.

The two leaders are piecing together a coalition of mostly European countries in a similar alliance to the French and British-led “coalition of the willing” nations working on Ukraine.

The idea is to send mine-sweeping and other vessels to clear the shipping lane and give companies the confidence to use the strait once the fighting is finished.

But the plan risks angering the mercurial Mr Trump, who has repeatedly castigated his Nato allies for failing to join his war and threatened to reconsider membership of the alliance.

European leaders have insisted this is not their war and ignored US calls to send warships to the strait.

The officials working on the plans, which some officials are referring to as “European NATO,” are seeking to get more Europeans into the alliance’s command-and-control roles and supplement U.S. military assets with their own.

The plans—advancing informally through side discussions and over dinner meetings in and around the North Atlantic Treaty Organization—aren’t intended to rival the current alliance, participants said. European officials are aiming to preserve deterrence against Russia, operational continuity and nuclear credibility even if Washington withdraws forces from Europe or refuses to come to its defense, as President Trump has threatened.

Canada’s dominant Liberal Party has introduced legislation that may soon make Christian speech illegal.

In March, the Canadian House of Commons passed Bill C-9, also known as the “Combatting Hate Act.” The bill was introduced under the guise of mitigating antisemitic attacks in the wake of Hamas’ violent attack on Israel on Oct. 7, 2023. Liberals claimed it was developed to protect religious communities, but C-9 eagerly expanded to prohibit public displays of “hate,” including “Islamophobia, homophobia, and transphobia.” The Canadian Liberals have used so-called hate speech as a Trojan horse to enact censorship laws — the same thing American Democrats are trying to do here.

UK will not join Trump’s blockade of Iran’s ports in the Strait of Hormuz

The UK will not be involved in enforcing the US military blockade of Iran, the BBC understands.

British naval ships and soldiers will not be used to block Iranian ports, while UK minesweepers and anti-drone capabilities will continue operating in the region.

A spokesperson for the UK government said: “We continue to support freedom of navigation and the opening of the Strait of Hormuz, which is urgently needed to support the global economy and the cost of living back home.”
