LITTLEJOHN: Canada’s fairy tale view of northern realities

‘It’s a little bit too much like the story of Little Red Riding Hood, in which Canada fails to see the big teeth grinning at it.’

Canadians are rightfully angry. Our best friend has stabbed us in the back with tariffs and while we laughed for a while, we are now tired of the 51st state joke.

However, if Canadians want to preserve our sovereignty we need to set aside our emotions and face facts.

We cannot win a trade war. Or any kind of war. The US Gross Domestic Policy is about $25 trillion, and at $2.2 trillion, Canada’s is not even a tenth of that. In other words, the Doberman meets the chihuahua in the alley. Guess who wins that fight?

Making English Our National Language Is One Step Toward A More Unified Country

Last Friday, Donald Trump signed an executive order making English the official language of the United States, ending 249 years of the country not having any official language, a designation the U.S. shared with only Mexico and the Pacific archipelago nation of Palau. The order also rescinded a 2000 Bill Clinton mandate requiring aid-dispensing agencies to provide language assistance to non-English speakers, while leaving the door open to agencies to do so if they choose. While the Left will undoubtedly cry “nativism” and “xenophobia” over the coming days, the order’s wording, historical perspective, and common sense show this is a necessary step to strengthen “melting pot” by uniting as “a citizenry that can freely exchange ideas in one shared language.”

French as an official language divides us to serve an elite’s agenda.

Mark Norman: Canada faces a lonely future of isolation

A darkening mood is settling in across Canada as it becomes clear that our country has come under siege by those we had previously believed to have been our closest friends and partners. We may have hoped that this would not come to be, but we are here now and we can’t pretend otherwise. Despite the appearance of randomness and incoherence, we are beginning to more clearly understand the rudimentary strategy at play behind what some have observed as “a dumb” move.

Trump targets Canadian dairy, lumber with threats of reciprocal tariffs

President Donald Trump is threatening to impose new tariffs on Canadian dairy products, claiming that Canada has been unfairly shutting out American farmers.

Trump insists Canada’s “tremendously high tariff of 250%” makes it “impossible for us to sell dairy products into Canada,” and warns the US could respond with reciprocal measures.

“This isn’t fair,” said Trump in the Oval Office.

62% of Canadians Plan to Avoid the U.S. for at Least the Next Year Amid Political Tensions

Over the past few weeks, tensions between Canada and the United States have intensified, spurred by President Donald Trump’s imposition of tariffs and the constant threat of annexation. This heated political landscape has ignited a surge in Canadian patriotism, which is now expressing itself in a very tangible way: through consumer behaviour. In other words, shopping choices, travel plans, and overall spending patterns are no longer driven simply by cost or convenience—political considerations are increasingly at play.

Most Canadians support building a cross-country pipeline, reject adopting U.S. dollar: Nanos survey

Three out of four Canadians would support a national energy corridor and pipeline from Alberta to Eastern Canada, according to a new Nanos survey – even if there were environment and Indigenous land claim concerns about the route.

The survey of 1,001 Canadian adults between Feb. 28 and March 5 found that 54 per cent “support” a cross-country pipeline, while 21 per cent “somewhat support” the idea.

Eleven per cent of those surveyed opposed the idea of a pipeline, while ten per cent “somewhat opposed” the concept.

South Carolina man to be executed in US by firing squad

A South Carolina prison inmate convicted of killing his ex-girlfriend’s parents with a baseball bat will be the first person in the US to be executed by firing squad in 15 years.

If Brad Sigmon’s execution proceeds on Friday at 18:00 local time (23:00 GMT), three volunteers standing behind a curtain will simultaneously fire rifles at his chest with specially designed bullets.

The state’s procedure requires that those put to death by firing squad be strapped to a chair when they enter the execution chamber. The inmate then has a target placed on his heart and a bag put over his head.

How Trump’s ‘51st State’ Canada Talk Came to Be Seen as Deadly Serious

After President Trump imposed tariffs on Canada on Tuesday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made an extraordinary statement that was largely lost in the fray of the moment.

“The excuse that he’s giving for these tariffs today of fentanyl is completely bogus, completely unjustified, completely false,” Mr. Trudeau told the news media in Ottawa.

“What he wants is to see a total collapse of the Canadian economy, because that’ll make it easier to annex us,” he added.

This is the story of how Mr. Trudeau went from thinking Mr. Trump was joking when he referred to him as “governor” and Canada as “the 51st state” in early December to publicly stating that Canada’s closest ally and neighbor was implementing a strategy of crushing the country in order to take it over.

As dictated by Katie Telford to the NYTimes. I suggest No Trudeau. No problem. And believe nothing the Liberal party says.

Canada’s frightening new reality: our next door neighbour has upended the world order

The spectacle of U.S. President Donald Trump and his toady acolyte, Vice-President JD Vance, berating Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the Oval Office last week was many things: embarrassing, shameful, shocking, reckless. But to Canadians watching their performance, the astonishing scene should have evoked another reaction: fear.

“Security guarantee” means the US picks up the defense tab while Europe continues to buy Russian Oil and Gas. She’s been ratio’d and deservedly so.

FBI offers $10m reward for ex-Olympic snowboarder turned drug kingpin

Authorities in the United States have offered a $10m reward for information that leads to the arrest of a Canadian former Olympic snowboarder-turned-international drug kingpin.

Police in Los Angeles said on Thursday that Ryan Wedding – also known as “El Jefe”, “Giant” and “Public Enemy” – is wanted for his role in a billion-dollar cross-border drug trafficking operation and for several homicides linked to his drug sprawling network.

Wedding, who the FBI said is one of the US’s top 10 most-wanted fugitives, is probably hiding in Mexico under the protection of the Sinaloa drug cartel, officials said.

Ukraine opposition leaders confirm talks with US but deny plotting to oust Zelensky

Ukraine’s opposition leaders have confirmed they have held discussions with members of Donald Trump’s entourage, but denied on Thursday they were part of a reported White House plot to remove Volodymyr Zelenskyy from power.

The former president Petro Poroshenko said he had held talks with US representatives but added that he opposed Trump’s demands for wartime elections. Poroshenko, who lost to Zelenskyy in the 2019 presidential vote, said a poll should only be held once martial law ends.

Yulia Tymoshenko, Ukraine’s former prime minister, said she also opposes elections while fighting continues. She said her team was “talking with all our allies who can help in securing a just peace as soon as possible”.
