Doug Ford Eyes Ontario Electricity Exports as Way to ‘Hit Back’ Against US Tariffs

Progressive Conservative Leader Doug Ford is musing about making Americans pay more for the electricity Ontario sends to the United States, in response to any levies President Donald Trump imposes on Canadian goods and services.

“We’re reviewing the cost of electricity we’re sending down there. And if he puts tariffs on anything in Canada or Ontario, they’re getting a tariff on their electricity,” Ford said at a campaign stop in Ottawa on Tuesday.

Should be fun when the US shuts down the Line 5 oil pipeline.

White House official pushes to axe Canada from Five Eyes intelligence group

A top White House official has proposed expelling Canada from the Five Eyes intelligence-sharing network as Donald Trump increases pressure on the country he talks about turning into the 51st US state.

Peter Navarro, one of the US president’s closest advisers, is pushing for the US to remove Canada from the Five Eyes — which also includes the UK, Australia and New Zealand — according to people familiar with his efforts inside the administration.

Ukraine and U.S. agree to framework for minerals deal, Ukrainian official says

Ukraine and the United States have agreed to a framework for an expansive minerals deal, according to a Ukrainian official and another person familiar with the matter. The White House has not confirmed the agreement and did not respond immediately to request for comment.

The Trump administration has pushed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to repay U.S. war aid with such an agreement, amid broader pressure to come to a peace deal with Russia.

Texas rancher killed by suspected cartel IED on Mexican border as authorities warn of ‘growing threat’

A Texas border rancher was killed near the border by a suspected cartel IED earlier this month, the Texas Department of Agriculture told The Post Tuesday — as officials issued an urgent safety warning for the Rio Grande Valley.

Rancher Antonio Céspedes Saldierna, 74, who worked on both sides of the border, along with Horacio Lopez Peña, were killed in the blast in Tamaulipas, Mexico, just south of Brownsville, Texas. Lopez’s wife, Ninfa Griselda Ortega, was hospitalized with injuries.

Trump says he wants Keystone XL Pipeline to be built

WASHINGTON, Feb 24 (Reuters) – Republican U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday he wanted the Keystone XL Pipeline built and pledged easy regulatory approvals for the project, which was opposed for years by environmentalists before its permit was revoked by the Biden administration.

The pipeline was first proposed in 2008 to bring oil from Canada’s Western tar sands to U.S. refiners and was halted in 2021 by then-owner TC Energy Corp (TRP.TO), opens new tab after former Democratic President Joe Biden revoked a key permit needed for a U.S. stretch of the project.

Long before Trump, diverting water to the U.S. has been an ambitious vision for the continent

The study imagines North America the way an engineer might, assuming that engineer was equipped with divine powers. First published in 1964, the concept of a North American Water and Power Alliance was an attempt to solve the design deficiencies of a continent that delivers great quantities of water to northern regions where few people live, while parching the sunny latitudes that provide an ideal home for suburbs and lettuce farms.

To fix it, some replumbing would be required, with the power of human technology – including, perhaps, nuclear-powered excavation – substituting for the tectonic forces that so badly misdirected natural water flows.

If Trump Wants Canada, Here’s How He Gets It

President Trump offered Canadians the deal of a lifetime — to join the U.S. and be welcomed as equals, as full citizens with all the rights that status entails. Canadian business would have tariff-free access to the world’s largest market. Individual Canadians would instantly be better off by replacing the weak Canadian dollar with the greenback, by getting lower taxes, lower gas costs, lower housing costs, better health care, better everything.

President Trump hasn’t made so generous an offer to anyone else. Yet instead of feeling honored, and responding in a spirit of generosity, most Canadians reacted peevishly and belligerently.

Vatican Thinks ‘Charity’ Means Championing Democrat Causes And Taking Money To Flout Immigration Laws

America’s Catholics are facing a crisis of authority.

The social and economic realities of mass migration contradict the Vatican’s facile theologizing on open borders. The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), in accord with Pope Francis’ globalist conceits, opposes President Donald Trump’s resolve to curtail illegal migration. Catholics are caught between fidelity to ecclesial leadership and obedience to the just laws of our own country.

Why the Sinaloa Cartel May Never Be the Same Again

CULIACÁN, Mexico—Even Jesús Malverde, the patron saint of drug traffickers, has fallen victim to the vicious turf war ripping apart Mexico’s biggest producer and smuggler of fentanyl.

Since the Sinaloa cartel’s two main factions turned on each other five months ago, a chill has descended on this city of gated communities, luxury malls and illicit drug labs. Few pilgrims now dare to venture out to the shrine of the mustachioed Malverde, a legendary early 20th century bandit credited with miraculous powers. On a recent day, not a single person had spent the $1 it costs to buy a candle to place before his image in thanks for a successful drug run across the border to the U.S.

“Nobody comes anymore,” said Luz María González, minding a small stand full of offerings, incense and statues of the folk saint.

Canada’s Reckless Immigration Policies – A robust security-first approach could restore credibility to Canada’s border management, now the most dangerous in the hemisphere.

In the shadows of Canada’s progressive image lies an unsettling truth: for decades, the country has operated as a revolving door for the world’s most dangerous individuals. While its leaders drape themselves in virtue, professing an open-arms approach to immigration, the consequences of their recklessness have landed squarely on the doorsteps of both Canada and the United States.

The cracks in this illusion are no longer hypothetical. They are now real, violent, and all too frequent. Whether through terrorist sympathizers who slip through the system unchecked or human smugglers exploiting the vast northern border, the consequences of Canada’s willful negligence are becoming impossible to ignore.

Justine Bateman and the return of the 1980s

The New York Times is afraid that the 1980s are coming back.

In a recent column, “The 1980s are back, and not in a good way,” writer Elizabeth Spires lamented that President Donald Trump has brought back the era of greed, when “being rich and preppy looked cool.” As in the Reagan era, young people are “rejecting the progressive politics of their elders.” Even fashions taken on “a slightly modernized 80s look.”

Trump says he’s moving forward with tariffs on Canada and Mexico next week

WASHINGTON – Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly said Monday that Canada needs to send the message it will “fight back” after U.S. President Donald Trump said steep tariffs on Canadian and Mexican products are indeed coming next week.

In a press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron at the White House on Monday, Trump was asked directly whether he was moving ahead with levies against America’s closest neighbours.

“The tariffs are going forward on time, on schedule,” Trump said.

Inside the Mojave Desert train heists targeting Nike sneakers

The thieves stealthily board eastbound freight trains, hiding out until they reach lonely stretches of the Mojave Desert or high plains far from towns. They slash an air brake hose, causing the mile-long line of railcars to screech to an emergency stop.

Then, they go shopping.

That’s the modus operandi described by investigators in a string of at least 10 heists targeting BNSF trains in California and Arizona since last March. All but one resulted in the theft of Nike sneakers, their combined value approaching $2 million, according to investigators.
