Trump’s talk about Canada parrots Putin’s claims on Ukraine says CBC

It took a while for Canadian politicians to figure out that Donald Trump wasn’t joking with his talk about annexing Canada.

After Trump raised the idea at a dinner in Mar-A-Lago attended by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Nov. 29, Intergovernmental Affairs Minister Dominic Leblanc said the “joke” was actually a positive.

“The president was teasing us. It was, of course, in no way a serious comment,” LeBlanc said.

Trump invites ‘Governor Trudeau’ to watch USA-Canada hockey final with him in D.C.

U.S. President Donald Trump won’t attend tonight’s politically-charged 4 Nations Face-Off final between Team USA and Team Canada, but he’s invited “Governor Trudeau” to watch it with him.

In a Truth Social post on Thursday morning, Trump said he would call the American squad to offer them a pep talk for the evening game at TD Garden in Boston.

Liberals getting money’s worth as media & pollsters release latest ginned up TDS poll

New poll says 27% of Canadians view the United States as an ‘enemy’ country

OTTAWA — A new poll suggests that more than a quarter of Canadians — 27 per cent — now see the United States as an “enemy” country, while another 30 per cent still say they consider the U.S. an ally.

Another 27 per cent of respondents to the Leger survey said they consider the United States to be a “neutral” country.

The poll comes as U.S. President Donald Trump threatens to impose economically devastating tariffs on Canada and has repeatedly pushed the idea that Canada should become a U.S. state.

John Robson: Crass anti-Americanism will get us nowhere

Washington, we have a problem. The United States appears to be retreating into isolationism in ways not seen in a century and a half, with potentially appalling consequences. And we couldn’t be handling it worse if we were Kremlin plants.

If you value the Pax Americana, and you should, we must find some way of persuading our neighbours and long-time protectors not to lay their burden down. Childish abuse won’t get it done. Calling Donald Trump a pro-Russian tyrant will certainly not persuade him or his MAGA supporters to reengage with the world on our terms.

JD Vance warns Zelensky he will regret ‘badmouthing’ Trump and condemns his ‘atrocious’ response to peace talks

Vice President J.D. Vance on Wednesday warned the Ukrainian president against attacking President Donald Trump, saying that ‘badmouthing’ him in public would only backfire.

Vance spoke to DailyMail.com hours after Ukrainian President Volodomyr Zelensky accused Trump of living in a Russian-made ‘disinformation space.’

The extraordinary language on both sides comes at a critical time in the war between Ukraine and Russia, as Trump pushes for a speedy resolution.

America’s post-apocalyptic cities

Squalid encampments are becoming the norm

It’s a toy store called Treasure Trove, but the first thing you see when you enter is no child’s play. Boxes of Narcan, a medication used to treat emergency drug overdoses, sit on the front counter near the cash register, accompanied by a handwritten sign that says “Free”.

Treasure Trove opened a year ago in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, as a satellite store of their toy and second-hand goods shop in nearby Newberrytown. But this second location, within spitting distance of the Pennsylvania State Capitol, has evolved into something like a mission for the chronically homeless that also sells Funko Pops figurines. The owners, a pleasantly nerdy couple named Jason Crocenzi and Jennifer Draisey-Crocenzi, say it was impossible to operate a standard retail business in a downtown where hundreds of deprived homeless people wander the streets and often outnumber regular pedestrians.

COLD FRIGHT: Trump-Putin Arctic energy talks freeze out Canada and Denmark

Talks between US and Russian negotiators in Riyadh to end the war in Ukraine on Tuesday raised alarm for an altogether and potentially even more disturbing reason as far as Canada and Denmark are concerned.

That’s because POLITICO is reporting that Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin are open to energy deals north of the 60th parallel despite ongoing boundary disputes with Canada and Denmark, both of the US strongman wants to annex.

IT BEGINS: President Trump Starts Peeling Back the Zelenskyy Mask

It was inevitable. We have been together from the outset of the conversation where we admitted to ourselves that sooner or later the pretending was going to have to stop. Well, here we are.

President Donald Trump begins a very uncomfortable process to peel back the mask that Ukrainian President Zelenskyy represents.

JD Vance’s hard truths on migration have shamed Europe

Sometimes, it takes a concerned old friend to point out things you’d rather not face. Like the fact just a few glasses of wine in the evening have slithered into alcoholism. Or your tendency to be a bit smug and bossy somehow ended up with people being arrested for things you find offensive. That was the role played by JD Vance at the Munich Security Conference.

John Ivison: The Arctic is Trump’s obsession. Not every Canadian leader seems to understand that

The constitutional problems preventing Canada from becoming the 51st state are so intractable that the idea is less practical than building a Mediterranean Riviera in Gaza.

For Canada to dissolve itself would require a constitutional amendment that would need the agreement of the House of Commons, the Senate and every province, not to mention First Nations.

On the U.S. side, President Donald Trump could present Congress with a treaty similar to the one that ended the Mexican-American War in 1847 that added nine states, including California.

How the U.S. Government Controls the Ukrainian Media

USAID funded the vast majority of ‘independent’ media in Ukraine. What American taxpayers don’t realize is that their money went to suppressing the truth.

The camera was rolling when chaos erupted. It was January 21, 2024, and an independent Ukrainian journalist named Ostap Stakhiv was livestreaming a call with Vasyl Pleskach, a man claiming he was being illegally detained by Ukraine’s infamous military conscription unit, the TCC. The agency has been accused of kidnapping men from the street and forcing them to the front lines. Those who resist have sometimes been tortured—and in several well-documented cases—killed.

In the middle of the interview, Stakhiv called the police to see if they would free Pleskach from the clutches of the TCC. Just then, with the police still on the line, a burly figure entered Vasyl’s frame, walked over to Pleskach, and struck him hard in the face. His phone tumbled to the ground, landing sideways, but still recording. “They’re beating him right now,” Stakhiv told the police, as Vasyl’s picture went haywire. “People are watching it live. They’re beating him as we speak. Go to my YouTube channel and see it for yourself.” Off-screen, Pleskach’s screams were audible for another minute before the line was disconnected.

Trump would boost ‘proud’ US ice hockey team at Canada game, says GM

The general manager of the US men’s ice hockey team said he would welcome a visit from Donald Trump to the 4 Nations Face-Off final between the United States and Canada on Thursday night.

Bill Guerin, who played 18 years in the NHL, said on Fox News that Trump’s presence would give a boost to the rivalry between the North American hockey powers. He credited Trump’s tariff threats and talk of making Canada the 51st US state for raising the intensity in their fight-filled matchup in the preliminary round.

Trump plans 25% auto tariffs to reshape US trade policy

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday auto tariffs will be around 25% and he will have more to share on the topic on April 2.

On Friday, Trump said levies on automobiles would come as soon as April 2, the day after members of his cabinet are due to deliver reports to him outlining options for a range of import duties as he seeks to reshape global trade.

Trump has long pointed to what he calls unfair treatment of U.S. automotive exports in foreign markets.

Europe Deserves Its Humiliation

It must spend more for its own defense, as American leaders have warned for years.

Europe has been warned, and warned again.

Still, it has been reduced to a near-fainting fit — and, in the case of one German official, actual tears — over the Trump administration’s tough words about its deficient military spending and its moves to begin negotiating on its own with Russia over the Ukraine war.
