Inside the Secret Prisoner Swap That Splintered the U.S. and China

A pair of prison vans approached the terminal at Tianjin Binhai International Airport carrying two Canadians, blindfolded and disoriented from 1,019 days in captivity.

On the moonlit tarmac, an unmarked U.S. Gulfstream jet waited to take them home. Nearby, the Canadian ambassador paced the carpeted lounge.

Fifteen time zones away, an Air China Boeing 777 stood ready at Vancouver International Airport. Armed officers of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police kept watch in the terminal. A Chinese executive in Manolo Blahnik heels strode past them, carrying a bag with a Carolina Herrera dress shaded the same vibrant red as China’s flag and trailed by an entourage of lawyers, aides and diplomats who called her Madam Meng. She, too, was headed home.

Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska nightmare

America’s heartlands are still haunted by despair

In 1982, Bruce Springsteen was at the height of his powers. Seven years earlier, his third album, Born to Run, had brought him global fame. “Springsteen is everything that has been claimed for him,” declared Rolling Stone. Critic Dave Marsh said he was “comparable to all the greats”. John Rockwell called him “the next Mick Jagger”. His next two albums, Darkness at the Edge of Town and The River, did nothing to dim his blazing star.

Fentanyl Is a Weapon of Mass Destruction

On September 11, 2001, nineteen terrorists slammed commercial airliners into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and a field in Pennsylvania. This unprecedented attack against the United States killed 3,000 Americans. The United States responded with a complete reorganization of our nation’s approach to homeland security and counterterrorism.

Since 9/11, enterprises in China and cartels in Mexico have produced and exported thousands of pounds of a lethal chemical that has killed over 100,000 Americans. Despite this deadly assault on America, there has been no decisive whole-of-government reaction by the United States to solve this problem. In fact, there has been almost no coordinated reaction at all.

The unholy alliance between Republicans and Islamists

Conservative despair about the liberal erosion of the West is delivering it to its mortal foes.

The tacit alliance between the Western left and the Islamists—Muslims intent upon conquering the West for Islam—has long been a source of deep concern.

Left-wingers, who exercise outsize influence over Western culture, sometimes make common cause with Islamists over their mutual aim of destroying the West and the State of Israel. This is even though the Islamists’ theocratic denial of democracy and human rights, their oppression of women and their persecution of gay people and dissidents run wholly contrary to the Western left’s professed values.

As if that axis isn’t dangerous enough, there’s now disturbing news of a parallel attraction developing between Islamists and conservatives. In a long and important article in Focus on Western Islamism, Sam Westrop has detailed a burgeoning alliance between Islamists and American Republicans.

How China Threatens the Midterms

A pro-China online network is attempting to undermine voter confidence ahead of the midterms in one of several disinformation campaigns targeting the United States, cybersecurity firm Mandiant said on Wednesday.

Researchers at the Google subsidiary said the campaign by “Dragonbridge,” a known information operation with alleged links to Beijing, may signal China’s official entry into U.S. election interference. However, it hasn’t been very effective.

Dubious online accounts have been pushing narratives including a claim that APT41, a hacking group with alleged ties to China’s Ministry of State Security, is backed by the U.S. government, Mandiant said. Others allege U.S. involvement in the Nord Stream gas pipeline explosions.

Hmmm … I am not convinced the US Deep State didn’t destroy the Nord Stream Pipelines. It’s a fact they conspired to bring down a legitimately elected President making them capable of any crime no matter how heinous in my view.

America’s ‘Acute’ Foreign Policy Disarray

The confusion and lack of clarity in the current administration’s foreign policies are growing ever more dangerous for US national security.

President Joe Biden’s recently released National Security Strategy labels Russia as an “acute” threat to U.S. national security. Yet the administration continues, with the support and encouragement of the EU, its futile attempt to restart the Iran nuclear deal, using Russia as its proxy negotiator. One can only wonder how the Biden administration believes the U.S. can negotiate this type of agreement using a nation we actually recognize and label an acute threat to work out the details with a nation—Iran—we label as a “persistent threat.”

Trio of ‘Wolverine Watchmen’ convicted in plot to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer

Three members of a fringe paramilitary group were convicted on Wednesday of aiding a plot to kidnap the Democratic Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer in 2020 over COVID-19 restrictions they viewed as oppressive.

The plotters – Paul Bellar, Joseph Morrison and Pete Musico – were convicted of trying to help Adam Fox carry out the kidnapping after a state court trial.

The prosecution in Jackson County, a Republican stronghold west of Detroit, grew out of a sprawling state and federal investigation into the plot.

Democrats’ mentally unfit candidates

… So what are they thinking?

The answer, obviously, is that they believe that the actual figurehead is utterly irrelevant. Just as with Joe Biden who was installed as President of the United States, the front man no longer matters–at least when it comes to Democrats. Anybody who is short of being a corpse will do just fine because it is not the candidate people vote for that does anything important.

Leave that to the Deep State, who are increasingly the ones running the country. Empty vessel politicians are easier to control.

Muslim Preacher Wants to Visit Attacker in Jail, San Diego District Attorney Says ‘What Attack?’

Uthman Ibn Farooq, the San Diego Muslim preacher who told the world he was stabbed by an “Islamophobic” Christian in March 2022, has responded to an FWI story indicating that the stabbing never took place.

In a YouTube video posted earlier today (Oct. 20), Uthman claimed to debunk FWI’s reporting, but provided no details about the identity of the attacker. He did state however, that his unnamed attacker had been arrested on hate crime charges, pleaded guilty to lesser charges, and is now serving time in jail and could be transferred to a prison for the rest of his sentence. Uthman said he has forgiven his attacker and hopes to visit him in jail so he can invite him into the fold of Islam.

Russian court rejects Brittney Griner’s appeal of 9-year sentence

A Russian court on Tuesday rejected Brittney Griner’s appeal after the jailed WNBA star begged for forgiveness for her “mistake” — upholding her nine-year sentence on drug charges.

Griner and her lawyers had asked for acquittal or at least a more lenient sentence, which they said was disproportionate to the offense and at odds with Russian judicial practice.
