Retaliation against China is exactly what the world doesn’t need

Call me faint-hearted but it strikes me as a bad idea to deliberately stir up trouble against a country armed with nuclear weapons.

So it’s ominous to hear the rattling of sabres by Canadians trying to push Ottawa towards punitive action against China for its detention of two Canadians called Michael.

China is an authoritarian, repressive country and its long detentions of Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor were cruel and wrong; it’s wonderful the two men are finally free.

But the animus being stirred up against it is reckless and dangerous, and seems aimed at backing U.S. efforts by both the Trump and Biden administrations to isolate China and push back against its rising economic and technological power and the challenge this poses to U.S. hegemony.

Happy International Pronouns Day!

From the people who brought you humiliation in Afghanistan.

It wasn’t a joke. Or, at least, it wasn’t meant as a joke.

“Today on International Pronouns Day,” tweeted the U.S. State Department on Wednesday, “we share why many people list pronouns on their email and social media profiles.”

The tweet linked to an article at ShareAmerica, the State Department’s “platform for communicating American foreign policy worldwide.”

Surgeons successfully test pig kidney transplant in human patient

Surgeons have attached a pig’s kidney to a human and watched it begin to work, a small step in the decades-long quest to one day use animal organs for life-saving transplants.

Pigs have been the most recent research focus to address the organ shortage, but a sugar in their cells, which is foreign to the human body, causes immediate organ rejection. The kidney for this experiment came from a gene-edited animal, engineered to eliminate that sugar and avoid an immune system attack.

What Is Male State, The Patriarchal Movement Russia Has Branded ‘Extremist’?

“Where is Pozdnyakov right now?” Judge Anna Belova asked the activist’s lawyer in court, according to a report by the news outlet Meduza.

“I can’t tell you, your honor,” the lawyer, Dzambolat Garabayev, answered.

Disney‘s Woke ‘The Last Duel‘ Bombs: Ben Affleck, Matt Damon Drama Tackles ‘Mansplaining‘ and ‘Toxic Masculinity‘

Disney’s The Last Duel, starring Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, bombed big time at the box office on its opening weekend, grossing a paltry $4.8 million in wide release. The medieval epic incorporated woke gender politics by embracing the #MeToo movement and hiring a female screenwriter to add an anachronistic feminist perspective to the Affleck-Damon-penned screenplay.

Lack of charges against Admiral McDonald did not mean allegation was ‘unfounded,’ military police say

Military police say that the lack of charges against Admiral Art McDonald does not mean the allegation of sexual misconduct made against the former top military commander was unfounded.

In a media statement issued today, the Canadian Forces provost marshal stated that the “allegation of sexual misconduct against Admiral McDonald” did not lead to charges because of “insufficient evidence.”

“This does not mean that the allegation was unfounded, which is defined by Statistics Canada as, ‘After a police investigation it is concluded that no violation of the law took place nor was attempted,'” the statement continued.

Medieval-style siege in central Berlin: German police move to evict iconic left-wing Kopi trailer camp

An operation to evict squatters from the left-wing Kopi trailer camp in Berlin has turned into a medieval-style standoff as shield-bearing police officers used siege towers and armored vehicles to ram the walls of the compound.

The “autonomists” living inside the housing project on 137 Kopenicker Street – commonly referred to as ‘Kopi’ by Berliners – in the center of the German capital had been fortifying their camp during the week, including placing barbed wire on top of the walls, ahead of the planned eviction on Friday.
