‘Holding my breath:’ Fear in Ottawa after Trump tirade against Somali immigrants

Somali Canadians living in Ottawa have condemned U.S. President Donald Trump’s tirade against Somali immigrants and their country, saying it has stoked fear and concern within the local community.

Trump’s invective came during a cabinet meeting Tuesday, soon after reports that federal authorities were preparing a targeted immigration enforcement operation in Minnesota focused on Somalis living illegally in the U.S.

Trump called Somali immigrants “garbage” who “contribute nothing” to the U.S. and said “I don’t want them in our country.”

“… In their three-bedroom home in a working-class neighborhood, Lamungu, his wife, mother and six children are learning the most rudimentary basics of American life. How to use mouthwash. Toothpaste. Deodorant. They have been taught, but frequently get the items confused: A stick of deodorant is placed next to cereal boxes in the kitchen; mouthwash is hard to distinguish from dish soap.

One day, they thought they were locked in their apartment because they forgot how to unlock the door. A car trip means passing out bags to the children because they get sick from the new motion. The family had to be told to take their own garbage out; they saw their neighbor’s trash bag and decided to add their trash to it.”

Activists attack Crown Jewels with apple crumble and custard at the Tower of London

Four people have been arrested after activists smothered apple crumble and custard over a glass case containing the Crown Jewels inside the Tower of London, this morning.

The campaigners, who have identified themselves as members of Take Back Power, then unfurled a sign saying: ‘Democracy has crumbled – tax the rich’.

Take Back Power said it is a new, nonviolent civil-resistance group demanding the UK government establishes a ‘permanent citizen’s assembly – a House of the People, which has the power to tax extreme wealth and fix Britain’.

Rosie O’Donnell’s life in exile: She moved to Ireland to escape Trump. Did it work?

DUBLIN — “Welcome to Ireland, Rosie,” said the woman walking toward her as she headed back from the store on Halloween night with candy. The passerby — a total stranger to Rosie O’Donnell — added blithely: “We hate him, too.”

Everyone here seems to recognize the American entertainer and know why she left the United States to move here in January.

“I felt on the verge of crying when I was there, when he got elected,” O’Donnell told an Irish television audience during a talk show appearance in March.

How Chihuahua-walking, ‘autistic-like’ pipe-bomb suspect Brian Cole Jr. stumped Biden’s FBI for years

The confessed Jan. 6 pipe bomber flummoxed former President Joe Biden’s FBI before he was arrested and charged this week with planting the explosives outside the headquarters of both major political parties’ buildings in Washington, DC.

President Trump’s FBI, led by Director Kash Patel, and prosecutors have released few details about the accused 30-year-old’s motivations, but investigative leads that law enforcement officials and congressional committees disclosed in the years preceding the bomber’s arrest point to how agents found it so difficult to apprehend him.

BBC Slammed for Inviting Illegal Migrants to its Question Time Immigration Special

Fresh from a steaming row over its alleged Left-liberal bias, the BBC is under fire from Reform UK for inviting two small boat migrants into the audience of last night’s “immigration special” on Question Time. The Mail has the story.

Reform UK opened a new front in its row with the BBC after the broadcaster invited illegal boat migrants on to its Question Time programme.

Zia Yusuf, the party’s head of policy, appeared on the immigration special to debate the issue but was questioned by a man who had arrived in the UK illegally.

He said that the corporation had invited two former asylum seekers to appear and he “could not believe” what he was seeing.

Sounds like a Canadian media stunt.

Donald Trump – and American democracy – is getting exponentially worse

I wish I could say I told you so. A point I have tried to make over the last year or so is that Donald Trump can only get worse: that however corrupt or incompetent or dictatorial or treasonous or insane he may appear at any given moment, it will inevitably come to be seen as a relative golden age beside what is to come.

There is a reason for this. It is that he can only stir the media and establishment outrage on which both he and his supporters thrive if he behaves even worse than we are accustomed to him behaving. It is not enough to say or do some appalling thing, even if it would have ended the career of any previous politician. He does that, quite literally, several times a day. Rather, he must exceed expectations of his grotesquerie. His critics’ dilemma – how to sustain outrage in the face of the constant, numbing, normalizing stream of objectively outrageous conduct – is also, in a way, his.

Met Police’s Flying Squad ‘to have their guns taken away in money-saving move’

The Metropolitan Police’s violent crime tackling Flying Squad are reportedly having their guns taken away in a money-saving move for the force.

Detectives from the unit are said to be ‘devastated’ by the decision – having battled for the last year to keep the weapons.

Barry Phillips, a member of the Flying Squad Association of past and present officers, said armed robbers ‘will be laughing their socks off’ at the thought of unarmed officers trying to stop them.

Huh?
